The Monte Carlo SS had the L69 engine which put out 190bhp & 245 Ft/lbs of torque. I am not sure about the CL maybe it got the LG4 w/ 150 hp, or the L69. Your IROC should put out atleast 190-205 bhp. If these engines are modded (you haven't mentioned) it is a matter of the mods.

I'm pretty sure the CL had the 4.3 V6. Even if it was the LG4, I still wouldnt waste my gas on him.

A stock SS monte is good for a mid to high 16's, they really were an underpowered, overweighted car however, drop a 460-horse 406 in an emissions exempt 84 SS & you have a high 11-sec street car....boy do I miss her... :-)

16's is a bit slow for the L69 Monte Carlo SS's. In fact, the 1983 SS's were faster than the Z28's in 1983. ..if you believe Motor Trend.

For more info on these cars (I have one), check these thread:

I have heard of stock Monte SS's running mid to high 15's. The SS's had the 305 H.O. with 180 HP, and a 3.73 rear end gear, with the exception of '83, which had 150 HP and a 3.42 rear end gear. The LS's and CL's had a 4.3 with the option of a 305 with 160 HP and a really weak rear end gear(I know, I got an 88 LS) You should definitely win if the SS is stock. I do think the Monte SS's are extremely sweet looking cars though, and they have a lot of potential for being built up!

Aint that the truth. My buddy is swapping a 350 with a turbo 350 tranny into his as we speak. I think he's also got true dual Flowmasters.

Yep, My friend has an 86 SS, hes putting a sbc 400 and a holley 750 on the top (hes got both in his garage) and he already has headers and True duals coming out the back. I must say that stock SS's are kind of rare (Sh*t i rarely even see montes just in the ghetto, cause they like to put hydros in them)
