I am in the right lane when a 87-93 fox body 5.0 pulls up. It sounded mean and he revved it at me, so I revved back at him. The light turned green and I eased into it (to prevent wheelspin) and he got the jump on me. I put it to the metal and we were even in second gear, but when third rolled around he took off and left me like I was sitting still. He said that all he had was an exhaust system so that was one pretty bada$$ mustang. Just thought I would share.

Thats a sad story .
Of course the mustang had more mods than exhuast! Im thinking if he pulled away from you like that NOS was involved. My Ex girlfriend had a 89lx HO and that thing was quick but it dident have the power to pull away like a jet. If i remember corectly 1st 0-25, 2nd 25-35, 3rd 35-50 4th 50-92 5th not crap. These are ***** out shift speeds and the mustang had the factory headers, the only mod was a flow master. Im thinking the guy fliped the switch on ya.
Sorry about the loss.
SSC

There I edited it. The Mustang If punched, dident have squat after 4600rpm or so, it wouldent provide any more power past this point. This was a stock car with an aftermarket muffler as the only modifacation!
Yes some mustangs with slight mods in different areas can rev much higher but an exhaust mod isnt going to give you the ability to rocket off into space! He sprayed, plain and simple.

Those speeds seem kinda slow to me. My mustang shifts into 4th gear just past the 1/8 mile and its doing 93 at the 8th and 116 at the end of the quarter. But it has a few mods. 25-35 in second gear?

The 'stang was sweet looking. It was a black GT with flames on the nose and Weld Draglites all the way around with DR's on the back. He might have sprayed on me, but that car sounded slightly cammed too, unless it was in desperate need of a tuneup. Anyway, the guy was pretty cool and when we came to the next light, we chatted it up and he gave me a thumbs up and we went our separate ways. I always have respect for enthusiasts, no matter what they drive. Although a bowtie will always peak my interest first.

yeah, 25-35 in second is really low. My auto car goes 0-35 1st, 35-70 2nd, 70-95 3rd, and 95+ in overdrive. but then again, its only a 4 speed. And mustangs dont come factory with flowmasters. And i wouldnt even qualify those crappy 'headers' as headers. Sure, they may be better than manifolds, but they're realy really thin on the primaries.

You must have a TBI, cause once you lose your torque you have almost nothing left.

I'm assuming you're not being a richard and I'll answer your question. Yes, I have a TBI, we've discussed this I don't know how many times...... If you have any other questions, please refer to that obnoxious thread you started earlier.

I have basically nothing once I get to 4000 RPM. The poor little 305 is gasping for air. I think if I went with the dual snorkel and the K&N filter, I could gain a couple of HP, but the main restriction is again the intake. And after that the list of "needs" grows larger. I think if I could make power up to 5500 RPM, I could have taken the GT. Of course, if the queen had *****, she'd be the king.....

your main restriction isnt your intake save that one for the TPI guys. TBI cars share the same long block as the TPI "peanut cammed" motors. .358-.386 lift cam with like NO! duration...that explains the invisible CONCRETE WALL! your car hits. under accelleration believe me i've owned an '88 TBI formula(girlfriends sister owns it now) i have a 91T/A with a peanut cam, both cars have 2.73 gears and single cat exh and small diameter intermidiate pipes, i raced the formula and guess what... i could barely stay a head of it.
the mustang was most likely fixed up, i wont argue that, but a spiffy aircleaner isnt going to give you what you nead. a ZZ4 long block and the appropriate TBI setup will.

Sounds kinda like one of my stories. Last weekend I took on a 5.0 convertible, he obviously expected my car to be stock, b/c most Iroc's around here are. We took off and I had him by about two car lengths. The he pulls up and blows past me, I knew then of course he had NOS. I saw him the next weekend at the track, he told me he didn't think I was that fast and was forced to use the bottle, otherwise he wouldn't have beat me. Oh well, a win is a win I guess...

on a TBI car ? i dont know if heads alone will give you what you want. high flow heads need to bo complemented with an adequate cam (exh, intake, ign, etc!) especially if your going to have the motor torn down that far.
afr advertises 80hp gain compared to stock ....i think
