1998 MUSTANG GT 5/SPEED
My cousin (with the 300zx)traded his nissan in for a 1998 mustang gt 5/speed (4.6)stock.
He is talking smac that the 1998 gts came with 245 hp. Is that true?? I know that the 98's come with 6 cats and the 96 and 97's come with 4. Any way do you all think he will smoke me like he claims he is? My mods are listed. Oh yea he cant drive worth a crap.
thanks I have 305 tbi with a 700r4...

hmmm lm not positive but l think the mustang might have you beat, the 4.10's and the 160 degree thermostat are pretty much holding you back, the motor hasnt got enough grunt and doesnt have a broad enough power band to pull all the way through the 4.10-you need something more like 3.42-3.73 also a common misconception is that cooling the interns of the motor down produces horsepower- not true, the intake is really what needs to be cooled-not the block the 160 is too cold, the motor never really gets a chance to warm up like it should, it may even cause detonation. the K&N will give you some throttle response and the headers should give you some torque, but l think the mustang wins in this case

nah, those 4.10's are actually counterproductive, theyre almost as bad if not worse than the 2.73's that were probably originally in there, l'd say you could hold him off until ya shift into second, the he'll probly get ya there, with a chip, a filter which really isnt a mod, and headers, you maybe made 30-40 more HP and maybe 50 ft lbs of torque, thats about 220 HP and 230-240 ft lbs, but l could be wrong, if l were you l'd lose those 4.10's for some 3.73's put in a higher temp thermostat l'd say somewhere around 180-190 trust me its not that hot, and by the way- are the headers feeding into a cat and the factory exhaust?

Where do you do most of your racing? If it's on the street keep the 4.10's. I've beaten many cars on the street that had way more HP(and torque) than my 305 TA. I pull so far ahead, so fast, that they just give up! At the track, I'd most likely lose. But who cares, I never race at the track! Who cares about the quarter mile?

My G/F has a 1996 Mustang GT w/ 4.6 all we have done to it is a K&N and a couple of Flowmasters. Her car doesn't have my torque, but it pulls damn hard when it spins up. I only beat her once, and that is cause she stalled, LoL!
I would need to install my Lt1 cam, and buy some heads and intake before I could catch her. BTW those stangs have 3.27's in the rear.

98 Mustang GT 5spd 3.27 1/4mile 14.7@96
225hp 285tq
A stock TBI auto F-body usually runs the quarter in the low 16 sec range.I think you'll get him off the line, then he'll pass you in 2nd.

The only stock mustang from the years 96, 97 and 98 that i have actually seen run a 14.7 is my best friends girlfriends car. It is a 96 gt with a 5 speed. I was told by a guy who has a 96 stang that there was a 200 dollar optional 3.45 gear for that car. I think this is what her car has. Other than that the fastest stock times i have seen from these cars is 14.9 my best friends car and a couple of others. Hope this helps.

First i have shorty headmans connected to stock y pipe(little mod required) and gutted kitte, turn down at rear end, i run with a 28 inch wheel and tire. I also removed the 160 thermo yesterday, I have one fan set to turn on @ 160 and the other is on a toggle switch.
(I have 2 small dual fans so not warming up is not a problem. As for my neighbors stang its a 1991 gt,I thought 5.0 were faster than 4.6?? Dont know if he can drive. All the times that everyone is posting on the 4.6 1/4 times is all done by pros. I dont think theres alot of guys out that are professonal drivers..
I do most of my racing on the street and when i'm at the track it gives me enough to do the quarter on 3 gears, that all you need..
