H/C/I 4th gen vs H/C/I 3rg gen
Friend of mine doesn't have an account but is curious about the outcome of a race between a LS1/T56 91 Camaro z28 with the following mods
mods:
short throw
k&n intake
moser 12 bolt with 4.10 gears
305/35r18 mt et streets
2" primary headers
prc stage 2.5 5.3L heads
ms4 cam
true duals
11:1 compression
tune
stock suspension, for now
and a 1999 Trans Am with:
1 7/8 LT headers
slp lip/ram air/85mm maf
ls6 intake manifold
PPTB
p&p 243 heads, milled, + springs/rr arms
short throw
ms4 cam
true duals w/cut outs
3.43 gears running 305/35/18 mt drag radials
LCA's, PHR, weld in SFC's
tune
what ya'll think?

i think with the suspension being stock puts it in favor of the 4th gen

I'm the owner of the 4th gen, I'll have almost 2 years of seat time and he'll only have about a week and half after he gets back, so I have the driver mod advantage, but we're just curious about car vs car, assume the drivers are equal.

Re: H/C/I 4th gen vs H/C/I 3rg gen
Head flow, weight, and launch are going to be the determining factors in this race.
I've got some decent trap speed calculators that require the known flywheel HP and race weight.
But really those engines are pretty close depending on the head work.
Example, I can say "ported LT1 heads" for my car. But hey, they flow darn near 290cfm and just over 200cfm on the exhaust with the factory valves. Massive difference between that and a slight clean-up.
I think this one will probably come down to the driver and launch in the 1/4 mile.

You can pretty much guess that a thirdgen with the exact same drivetrain and engine will be a bit faster than an equivalent 4th gen mostly because of the weight difference, probably 250lbs (maybe over 300) when comparing LS motored cars.

Re: H/C/I 4th gen vs H/C/I 3rg gen
my SS weighs in at 3400
even if there is a weight difference, if the 3rd gen cant hook, or put the power to the ground, it doesn't matter

Since the cars have a very similar suspension setup, with the same parts and tires, both are going to spin (or not).

Wow this is a good match up of a race imo.The 4th gen has the better susp but 3:42 gear. The third gen might slightly lighter with stock susp and a 4:10 gear. The main issue I see is driver error. The 4th gen having a good 2yr seat time is a big factor.Lol how about you 2 switch cars and race eachother and see what comes out of that.Either way..I see this being a damn good race with either car maybe pulling a solid car..maybe 2 depending on how each car launches. From a roll would be interesting to hear.

Re: H/C/I 4th gen vs H/C/I 3rg gen
The heads on the trans am have a slight advantage over the 5.3 heads on the Camaro, however the 4.10's in the Camaro will help out a lot as opposed to the 3.42 rear in the Trans Am. The MS4's love compression too, so the higher compression (assuming the compression is higher on the Camaro than the Trans Am) will definitely help.
Have either of you weight your cars?
