84 H.O. vs 02 WRX w/04 sti swap vs 93 del sol

Me and some of my family are planning on going to the strip. Just wondering what you guys think.

I have an 84 camaro H.O. completely stock.

My cousin has an 02 wrx with an sti swap, but has the wrx trans still so he cant fully open it up (the trans cant handle the sti power). other then that just a cat back exhaust w/o cat.

My brother has a 93 del sol. Its dropped the right way(complete suspension was redone). and has some racing exhaust.

I dont believe ill have a chance with my cousins car, but I think i can bury my brother.

Re: 84 H.O. vs 02 WRX w/04 sti swap vs 93 del sol

I wouldnt bother with your cousin, My car even with the 350 swap, pistons, performer intake and 650dp, msd, hooker headers and dumped 2.5" true dual, got walked fairly hard by an 07 sti with full exhaust.

I did however take from a dig and walk a fairly stock 06 turbo wrx with full exhaust. Now that I recently did a cam/valvetrain swap, and some more weight reduction, I would like to see how I fair against an sti. I should be able to hold it.

The del sol is a different story. I wouldn't say you have it in the bag. Although the del sols probably only making near 100 hp and less tq at the crank, its about 1000 lbs lighter than your car. Thus making it fair competition. If its manual and you are automatic I would watch out.

I can tell you that you'll smoke the del sol unless your car breaks. I never had trouble with a del sol even with a tbi and a 700r4.

Wrx will win del sol will be a good race. He may be lighter but u have torque on ur side. If its a si del sol then u might be in trouble.

Oh, it is. Although, in my opinion, my brother cant shift. He probably wont even launch it correctly.

Didnt think I had a chance against my cousin.

You know what motor that del sol has? If it has vtec that makes a diggerence. More info on your car would be good to. You say HO do you mean the L69? Is it a 5spd or auto?

I agree... I have been in a stock Del Sol, and it wasn't a slouch... It hit 7k pretty quickly... If he can drive, he will beat you.

seriously. I dont know what the h.o. carbureted engines are making HP wise. But a stock tbi 305 is making 170 so that h.o. is around there somewhere i'd assume.

Re: 84 H.O. vs 02 WRX w/04 sti swap vs 93 del sol

Yes, I have the L69 motor, automatic, and rated at 180 hp new. My car is bone stock

My brother is finding out that everything on his car was converted to a 97 model released only in japan, Drivetrain and all. Its a manual car, everything is stock except exhaust and that its lowered.

He told me he took on a third gen on the highway and won, but I still think I mite have him from a dig.

This thread is making me really wanna find out the truth. When he gets back from his trip im gonna challenge him.

So hes got a JDM swap, which doesnt mean to much. The best motor that came in the Del Sol anywhere, any year was the B16, which if thats what he got than you got yourself a race. My buddy has a B16 with bumped CR, type R cams, and boltons and he ran a 14.7 first time at the track with wheel spin and switched to a taller geared tranny. Did I mention this was in a 2400lb integra?

If your brother has a B16 with B16 tranny and his car weighs around 1800-1900lbs he could squeeze in some mid-high 13's. So my suggestion to you is to find yourself some drag radials and learn how to launch your car on the little converter you do have and try to pull him out of the hole, but he will reel you in.

Just race him and find out.

I tried to get him to race. Hes too scared I guess. Got caught doing 106 almost 4 years ago. Couldnt even get him to go 70 on the highway.

And yes I believe it is a b16 swap with just an exhaust system

If we ever do settle it, I hope I get it on camera, ill be sure to let everyone know

I cant believe what I am hearing. People SCARED OF A DEL SLOW? No you will walk all over that Del Sol I don't care it it has a vtec or weighs 1000lbs less I've seen Jeep Cherokee's stock run better then Del Sols. What kind of beta crap are you people telling this guy?

Just race him you'll beat his sorry *** easy. It will be automotive sodemy.

As for the STi they are quick but nothing a mildly built L98 can't whip the floor with. But that H.O. isn't an L98 its 70horse power less infact, so doubtful you'll win.

Re: 84 H.O. vs 02 WRX w/04 sti swap vs 93 del sol

You must be racing automatics, considering my buddy ran 14.7 in a heavier car with taller gears I think he should not go into this with an inflated head. What is an L69 automatic, a low 15 maybe high 14 second car. Yeah if his bro's car was an automatic single cam then yeah it would be a slaughter house, but an 1800lb car with 160hp and short gearing can be quickish.

No beta crap, just telling it like I see it. And dont think I'm a honda guy in anyway at all, but after what I've seen with some of my friends cars I can tell you a 180hp 305 with an automatic is going to have a race on his hands.

Nothing GM did in that era made to much sense to me. But to the original topic unless your bro cant drive I think he's got this one, but no matter what your car is just cooler in every way.

You make it seem like 3rd gens were rockets.....nothing from the smog infested 80's was anything close to a rocket, besides maybe the GN's. You obviously don't know much about jap engines. B16 del sol has 160 HP. It weighs 1000 lbs less than a 3rd gen that has ONLY 20 HP more. Now you do the math.

As for an STI, this "mildy" built L98 better have more than a few bolt ons to beat an STI. 13.3 1/4 mile in stock form compared to L98's 14.7 or so, and 300 HP compared to the heavier L98's 245 HP. And this STI has bolt ons.

To the OP, the WRX with the STI motor will def beat ya good. Try against your bros del sol and see what happens. Might be close from a dig...he'll prob get you up top though.
