Re: Fastest you've gone

To be honest, I'm too scared to ever push it. Highways and roads are engineered and graded for a certain speed, and at triple digit speeds you don't have the reaction time to slow down for something in the road or avoiding an obstacle. I'm going to wait until I can run the mojave mile to bury the speedo :P

Re: Fastest you've gone

In my first car, 76 Camaro type LT. I brought the speedo back to zero and that car as far as I know was stock. I think it was around 145 MPH. I had a 05 Cobalt SS/SC that I got it to 138MPH before I ran out of room and in my 02 Z28, got her to 135 before she scared the hell out of me that was one scary car.

Same game, same track. I got the 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA to max out at 151mph.

Wish we could see more third gens in games and have more customizing options.

In Forza 3, you could swap in a LS1, LS3, and LS9. In Forza 4, its brand specific. Since no Pontiac ever got a LS9, the best the GTA can get is a LS3 from a G8.

The Camaro on the other hand gets LS1, LS3 from a 5th gen Camaro SS, and the LS9 from the ZR1.

The worst part? They didn't name the engines. The engine in swaps are listed by the car they came from. So a LS1 is " 2002 Trans Am Ram Air " and a LS3 is " G8 GXP "

Re: Fastest you've gone

Got it up to 135ish with the car in the sig. Single lane road which had my neighborhood branched off.
I hit some bumps in the road and the car felt like it did the wave so I let off.
Before the bumps though it felt very smooth.

Re: Fastest you've gone

Im not quite sure how fast I've gone. Speedo stooped at 85mph. 84 TA 350, 700R4, 2:73 gears 245-55-16 tires. Full throttle and O/D still locked up. Ran against an RX8. started at 80 mph, gassed it hard, Ran through and didnt let off till 6500 came around. RX8 was right there till 6K.
If anyone can calculate how fast I was going it would be greatly appreciated!

130mph with an old worn out 400SBC, 700R4 and 3:73s. Took a whole mile to get it up there.-1985 Trans Am
110mph with the new motor 3/4 the way through third.

105mph-Stock 2008 Trailblazer SS

94mph-highly modified 4 cylinder 1999 S10, because that's as fast as it'll go!

At 5k RPM. 3.73 rear, 25.3" tires, 700r4 in OD>> Calculator says I'll go 144, I've had it up to close to 4k rpm on a wide open Tx highway once a while back., so a little over 110, Iv'e gone faster as a kid, not much interest in top speed much anymore. . 50-80 is fun to pass, 30-70 is fun on on ramps etc. My car is coming up on 30, not ready to be buried in it, even though I've totaled 5 Volvo's and walked away......

6500 rpm, 2.73/1, 26.61 tall tires, .7/1 (OD) comes out to
-Result -- 269.38 MPH 433.52 Km/H

I'm pretty sure you weren't going that fast , if in 3rd gear, comes out to 159 at 6500 rpm

I wouldn't consider this an accident. But I too have done this if someone blocks a lane on purpose.

Re: Fastest you've gone

same problem as mdavidson, speedometer only goes to 85 :P but I've had it pegged against the trip reset button which is another inch past that XD

i don't really like getting on the freeway because of my low gear ratio. kills what little fuel economy i had in the first place. and im also only 18 and in the whopping 2 years sence having my license I've been pulled over twice. both times within the last 2 months and I was in my firebird doing nothing illegal. cops must have been bored and said, LOOK! a sports car. and it wasnt just a license check it was a full blown field sobriety test >_> **cough** **cough** **bullshit** **cough**

I only intended to do about 85-90 to ensure I would get around this maniac. But my foot, not being used to having 300+ horses on tap, pushed a little too long.

I dealt with that today a couple hours ago. I just built a 355 with an HSR and LT4 hotcam, so I wanted to see what it could do when I need it. I was going 70, and when I looked at the speedometer 3 seconds later I was at about 120 mph. On my old motor, I would be around 90. That's what 200 extra horsepower does.

New setup is a 88 Camaro with a 300hp 350 and 5-speed manual with 3.70 gears in a 9-bolt. Max speed has been about 110, not sure how much more she has to give with the 3.70's

Re: Fastest you've gone

While I was stationed in England, I had the opportunity to travel to Germany for work which means I got to drive the Autobahn! Really it's the greatest road on the planet. I flew passed the 85 on my Speedo and set the cruise at 100 by the GPS. Got to a flat spot and cranked her up. GPS said 125 before I backed out of it due to traffic. Never got it on camera, too scared to take my hands off the wheel. 4000+RPM and it was still pulling strong. Sadly, now that I'm back in the states those days of running free are over. Once again am I chained to the 70mph speed limits.

Give the year and model of the car and your speed...should be interesting...

Well, in my 92 305 I topped it out at 115 before I ran out of road, BUT ive gone way faster in other cars.
My buddies 91 mustang foxbody he took us to 150
Before I had my temps I borrowed my aunts Mercedes CLK350 and took it to 130
took my dads lexus IS300 to 140
ummm but yeah I don't think ive gone any higher than 150....

On highway,,,, I looked at speedo and was at 100 I gave it a little more pedal but too scared to look down again (eyes on the road)...Only did it once in the iroc,,, it was thrilling and scary...My biggest concern was someone changing lanes quickly....Don't think I'll do it again !!!!!!!!

Re: Fastest you've gone

Cool thread. I was stopped (clocked) on I-285 at 145 MPH once. Had a friend clock me once in his RX-7 at above 150 MPH (that was how fast he was turning when I ran by him). It seems John-law doesn't see it as a cool thing anymore so it has been about 15 years since I've run her on the street at those speeds. Anymore they will jump you at gunpoint and lock you up for it.

The SSC Ultimate Aero did 250+ on a public highway, I'm sure all of us doing 120-180 are perfectly fine.

Re: Fastest you've gone

in my 88 s/c after the crate swap with .60 over forged flat tops and a cam my buddy took out of his 383 (no clue on the size but it was no monster) all balanced and ported with a 1050 on top, it would do just over 115 in 3rd (with a t5) and if my tach was even close it went well into the 160's before the shake got to bad and i chickened out ... turned out that the shake was the input shaft on the t5 getting chewed up and the next day i had to drive 1/2 way home from work stuck in 5th gear ... last time i ever drove that car

pretty big difference to any highway near me
this is highway 93, mostly deserted, two lane on very flat ground with a pretty high visibility.

it was also closed during the duration of testing as almost every speed run is done on a CLOSED COURSE.

Obviously its going to be closed during a speed run. My point was that highways may be rated for a certain speed, but its not like they're going to fall apart or the car is going to lose traction because it was only made for cars to be doing XXXmph.

Visibility, road conditions, etc all vary wildly between different highways/seasons/time of day. Its up to us to judge if its " safe " to exceed a certain speed.

and you know as well as i do that that is the problem. because we all know that there is that one ******* who tries to go too fast when he shouldn't (look close, 89 firebird looks alot like my old car actually)

Age doesn't mean anything without experience. At 17 I feel more qualified to drive than 90% of the others on the road, but then again I've been dirt track racing since I was 8, and was always wheeling something before that.

I'm not trying to make myself look like "Another cocky teenager", but it's only the ones who have no understanding about the dangers of driving at speed that end up into trouble.

Back to the thread. 130 mph on the dot, stock 92 Camaro L98. Stopped because the interior started to feel like that of an electric razor due to bad U joints.

The FASTEST I've gone is actually a funny story...My x's step dad was vp of a local chevy dealer and he let me drive an 08 corvette off the showroom floor. He let me get on the local bypass and I had the electronic speedo that regenerates every second or so up to 140+ and I was still holding the pedal down. Front of that car lifted up when I got on it at 30 getting on the on ramp. Crazy fun drive. Needless to say he almost **** his pants on the drive and he also mentioned how suprised he was that I "wasn't afraid of the car" as I was only 18 yrs old
UPDATE! Three years later: 168 in my 99 Z28 w/ bolt ons, tune and 3.73's. Speedo and GPS confirmed
