Re: RS vs Mustang GT vs WRX

I keep telling my friend that we need to go to the track, but he keeps insisting on running on the streets...

I think he might be afraid

I took him around the block in my RS and since then he hasnt said to much about wanting to race anymore...

Re: RS vs Mustang GT vs WRX

The tremendously brutal torque of the TPI is enough to scare anyone who's unprepared for it. Put some 3.42's and a posi in it then take him for a ride again, guarantee he won't want to race then.

Couldn't agree more

I should have done my L98 swap years ago...

And the funniest thing is... I used to think my TBI was powerful

Re: RS vs Mustang GT vs WRX

my 92 rs isn't much different from your 91, i was there too. but for an l03 mine was fast, 15.65 wit a cat back and open element. compared to the l98 though, it's crap.

to the l03 guys, don't take it personally that the l03 is the low man on the totem pole, but don.t think twice about buying an l98 car or upgrading to a 350. then again we don't even speak of, or see much of the v6 cars either which somehow get left aalone. prbably cause those guys KNOW they aren't the fast ones unless it's a certain BOP v6 or another turbo/super charged option.

not til 99. 98 had the NPI heads and cam.

My stock longblock L98 (gears exhaustand corvette converter) destroyed NPI cars
and holeshot then slowly walked PI mustangs.

Re: RS vs Mustang GT vs WRX

*Sigh* in 1997 the 4.6's had an oval shaped intake port, in 1998 they changed it to a teardrop shaped port but it IS smaller than the 1999 PI style ports. The 98's also got better PCM tuning and a few other small changes that put the power up to 225. I've done a PI intake swap to a 98 and seen the intakes off of a few 4.6's. We had a HECK of a time getting stuff to work right until we found that the 1998 was basically a 1 off year. Similar to the 1997 LT1 engine, it was just one of those odd years. Oh and btw, stock 4.6 liter Mustangs are dogs. They feel fast when they're equipped with the 5 speed but they aren't in a hurry to get anywhere.

Re: RS vs Mustang GT vs WRX

That is one thing that I have noticed about his GT.... It feels like it kicks pretty hard, but it doesnt actually seem to be going anywhere...

I just thought that I was going crazy or something

Re: RS vs Mustang GT vs WRX

Those year GTs weren't extremely fast cars, higher 14s most likely. Heavy, motors weren't torquey and a weak N/A aftermarket. The best bet for those years is a PI swap with some freshening up, cams, and a power adder .

One of the easiest Mustangs to beat out there.
