LOL, yeah, I am pretty sure you will beat him. What kind of mods do you have done to your car, if any? Just make sure you don't spin comin out of the hole. Is yours 5-speed or auto? Either way I am pretty sure you got him.

Just nail the holeshot, you'll be ok. From a roll he might be pretty close, but an automatic 4banger isn't coming off the line link the torque of your SBC will, you should be able to holeshot him really well, and then stay out front.

you should get the acura in the 1/4, but the toyota will be close, ditch the 305.

I am pretty much in the same situation as you, except I am attending UTI, and I make $8.00 an hour part time. What you need to do like I am doing, is to work with what you got. On your budget, getting a whole new engine, finding the time to swap it in, and not running into any other financial snags is a tough thing to do. Don't just kick the 305 HO to the curb, it has potential to be faster. It just needs the right mods. As for the people that will tell hime to just go with the 350, well not everyone is that financially fortunate. And in his case, sounds like a long term goal.

You also said you didn't know much about cars, and thats why your here, then before you throw yourself head first into a motor swap, cut your teeth on the 305. Hell its a win-win. Make the 305 a little faster, plus gain some knowledge about cars.

Thats just my .50 cents. Hehe. Good luck though with whatever you do!
