Anyone raced a new Nisssan 350Z?

Just wondering how a typical f-body would fair against one of these. I had one toying with me this morning on my way to my new job. I was going to hammer it to see, but there were a few factors that stopped me.
1- Car had just been started and was only at like 120º
2- Traffic was a little heavy
3- Fuel gauge was a little empty, as were my pockets
4- How do you explain being late on your first day, from getting a ticket?
I have had some pretty good luck against a newer mustang, but we were already rolling on the highway.

hmm 350z, It will rape a 2.8 V6 third gen, It will slaughter the 305. And for the 350 TPI, The 350z would still win. But you can slap some bolts and some good mods onto a 350TPI( good runnin L98) and with a good driver and it deff can win. My bros 92 Z beat a 350z by a car length with some mods (nothin really big) And my Cuzins 90 IROC 350 took some down as well with mods... WHat do these 350z run a 1/4? high 13s i assume

An L98 will be the only 3rd gen in stock form to take one. The 350Z will walk it hard up top. From a dig the L98 gen wins. They are in LT1 territory with a slight advantage for the LT1. They seem to slowly walk away at speed.

From a dig, yes. From a roll, I highly highly doubt it. Stock M6 LT1's barely pull away.

I raced one not too long ago. I was able to just rape the car. I have a feeling though that the guy driving didn't know how to drive the car. Silly punk in his momma's car.

we beat one, just not with a thirdgen. We beat one with our 2000 gtp thats modded. Our gtp runs 13.8 @ 100 and the 350z runs about a 14.1-14.2 from what car and driver says. The guy was pissed , it was great .

I've beaten em both with my '88 and '03 Mustangs.

I don't think most people know how to drive them correctly. On the track, i commonly see them running mid to high 14's. I think they are a flat 14 second car with a good driver. But most people driving them i guess are not that skilled.

Modded ones haul ***, and look out fore the upcoming factory turbo versions (and the aftermarket turboed ones)

350Z's are good uptop compared to the run of the mill thirdgen. an L98 or an LB9(w/cam and some decent mods) can take one out. the trick is there not that much out of the hole. If you line up with one check the driver first. if he/she looks young and cockey(I'm shure you know what to look for) try to run em' from a dig. If you can beat them out of the hole bad enough thier ego will take over and they will begin to overrev the motor, miss shifts, ect.

however with a good driver in the 350Z, you'd better have good hp to compete

Hmm, let's see: Peg-leg rear, stock TBI heads, stock manifolds, slipping tranny....should I go on? LOL

Well I was able to spank a turbo bug from a roll. Also did fairly well against a newer mustang on the highway...just always come up to traffic too fast.

the only way you can brag about beating a turbo bug is if you beat it with another turbo bug. Its like beating up an 8 year old, taking his lunch money and bragging about it.(jmo)

Yeah, I didn't think it was such a big win, but I have no idea what they are supposed to run. Now in my opinion, I wasn't bragging, just making a statement. So I guess I am as bad as the 8 year old egging me on to take his lunch money, huh? LOL

its all good I guess, one time I had this guy in a 3cyl metro that he fixed up actully try to race me. it wasan't even a race, it was a slaughter. I knew I would win but its not really something mention, its just something I got a little laugh out of.

I guess its ok to mess with a significantly lesser vehicle sometimes, just don't use it for trash talking leverage

Don't make excuses, its lame, that was the point I'm trying to get across. Just race somebody and say it was a good race. If everybody listed all their excuses I"m sure the other driver could have come up with a couple pages worth of stuff too "the car was heavy, I didn't take a crap yet, there was bugs on the windshield, my transmission makes noises.." ect..

this one time I lost to a LT1 formula but it was ok though, I would of won but I had to much gas in my car, I diddn't get traction, my trans was slipping, I had a passenger, I hadn't washed my car yet that day so I had pigion cap producing drag, my exaust bearing was going bad, I was retaining water and he had nitros.

otherwise I swear I woulda won:lala:

Sure about that ???

I know of two others that would walk a 350Z real hard

ive only played with two thus far..

the first one well..lets just say i got eaten alive (2 cars maybe//1.5) but it had a turbo..

so then i immediately looked for another one..once i found one i made sure that he was ready to race..

raced him and smashed him by 2 cars at least..

so..whats the moral of the story?

305s can beat them (i only have headers, kns and full exaust)
but once you get one with a turbo..

they are friggen a force to be recconed with

Re: Anyone raced a new Nisssan 350Z?

I own a 91 firebird 350 TPI. Yes, I have raced two 350 z's and my brother owns one. I have also driven one. Yes , I beat it both times. LOL. I only have bolt on mods. Hypertech,k&n, dual y, 160 stat. By the way my car will break the tires loose at 45 mph just like it's vette counterpart, the C4 vette, AND I am still using the stock 273 gears.LOL. The L98 engine is a low end torque monster, almost comparable to a big block motor. There was a guy arguing with me earlier on you tube stating that no third gen could ever take a 350z. I tried to explain to him that torque is what matters , not hp. A 350 z is rated at only 260 ft lbs@4800 rpm. While our L98 cars are rated at 330@ a much much lower rpm. (can't remember exact rpm number). I would only bet on a 350 TPI beating a 350z though.

I would have to agree w/you on that one. I had a mild cam, ignition, intake, and exhaust upgrades on my 305, most people assumed it was stock and slow. I had alot of fun by keeping my mouth shut. The car was never quick IMO, but it had a little more pep to it and that was nice.....

Re: Anyone raced a new Nisssan 350Z?

Wow, this one pulled me back onto the forums. I haven't been here in a LONG time but when i saw the email i had to chime in. I used to be a regular.

I've actually purchased an '06 G35x sedan. It's basically a big heavy, 4-door 350Z with AWD. Mine is basically the heaviest model produced on the 350Z chassis since i have stuff like full-size spare, NAV, heated 12-way adjustable seats and electric tilt wheel, etc.

Anyway, bone stock i took it to the track, and with a full tank of gas, pulled a 14.6 @ 94MPH.

SInce i've been hanging on the 350z boards, one thing that i've learned is that mods are $$$$ and don't really do much in terms of HP. Their $$/hp ratio is high. Even so, high 13 second 350Z/G35's are not uncommon after a few grand in mods

As for the new 370z/G37...plenty of guys run high 13's bone stock with them...even the AWD model might pull out a 14.0.

If you are stock, something to think about...but most modded guys are easily faster than high 13's...so it shouldn't be an issue since it's MUCH cheaper to build a chevy than a 350z

I too had to respond once I saw this in my email.

First off, I bet your car is nice. I'm a big fan of the Infiniti cars. Very nice! Second, I saw first hand a bone stock auto 370Z bust out a 13.1. I think they're faster than their 6 speed manual counterparts? Third, I sold my Iroc back in August....so down to 0 F-Bodies

Unsure if the auto's are faster than the manuals, but the nissan automatic is very nice. It has ideal gear ratios and shift logic. I beleive nissan has gone to the 7-speed auto now, but used to have a 5-spd auto.

I've driven the G37, which is the Inifinti version of the 370Z, and flat out it hauls. It's 330HP, but only 270 TQ, but feels plenty peppy off the line. It will plant you into the seat from a dead stop like a V8. I haven't run one at the track myself, but most of the well driven 370z's and G37's are well into the 13's with a decent driver. They shine on the highway as well. I drove an automatic one and a stab of the pedal at 60MPH and i was doing 90 in a matter of seconds. I was in love.

Downside to it all though, EXPENSIVE to modify

Re: Anyone raced a new Nisssan 350Z?

Smoked a 350z, and a couple of G35's on the highway. For some reason they always want to race me. I like to play with them and let them think they have a chance, and then stomp it. My third gen is not stock though. I am sure stock would be a closer race, but then it really depends on the driver.

Re: Anyone raced a new Nisssan 350Z?

350Z's are a joke... I wanted to get one when they first came out, mainly because I was a big fan of the 300zx... So I went to my local dealership and took the touring edition out for a spin; I was highly dissapointed... It had no torque or pull what so ever and the suspension just felt mushy... I ended up getting an Acura CL Type S that was on the same lot... It had the same amount of horsepower but with gobs of torque and a back seat ...

Straight line and track days i've walked all over 350's... They're just not worth the money IMO and personally, I think they give the ol' school 300Z's a bad name...

Havn't had the chance to line up with the egg mobile 370, but looking forward to ripping it a new one...

Heck I forgot about the early 90's double "T's". I almost bought a 92 N/A one in 98 til a 93 Formula showed up on the used lot at the Nissan dealer I worked at for a short time

Re: Anyone raced a new Nisssan 350Z?

I've beaten a 350z. Granted I'm nowhere near stock, but power wise I'm not far from it.

B-body LT1/4L60E swap (260hp motor, not the 275/285hp F-body motors) Its got that super tiny baby cam at 180/194 duration @.050"

Hooker 2055 headers
SLP 2otL cat-back
No cat, Moroso CAI.

I didn't smash him either. We appeared to run about equal at first, but I'd inch away from him the longer we went.

Never had the car on a dyno, never had it at the track either. I was at the track, but there were several accidents and blow-ups all day that kept the track down most of the time. I finally got up to the line, and the previous two cars had a bad accident at the end of the 1/4 mile taking out several safety barriers, closing the track down.

Re: Anyone raced a new Nisssan 350Z?

I haven't had the chance to race one at all. I've seen plenty of them around too. I had one following me one day but he never actually pulled up to me like he was interested. I can't say I'm all that impressed with the cars themselves but they are attractive machines and make decent power for a V6 I guess. I think it's about 300hp at the crank and probably around 250 at the wheels.

Now if you talk about the 370Z then that's what I'm talking about. Those are fast and nice.
