i think it kinda depends if you are auto or manual tranny and what rear-end you have. with some 3.73's you stand a way better chance then with 2.73's. I don't know what a prelude can do but if your manual and he is auto i'd say go for it anyways.

You definately have the torque advantage, but if he is a good driver with stick and you're auto, i don't know. I beat this kid in a stick lude one time. I have a V8 though. I completly destroyed him though. Go for it anyway, especially if there is no $ involved. And post the results too.

most of the older preludes were made for all around drivability.. NOT 0-60, they have very heavy (for a four banger) components like All Wheel Steering...... they are NOT very fast... but if your car is pretty stock i think (and i am NOT partial to hondas) the prelude will win..

well im sure you know this.. but ill try anyway... street races are won and lost on stupid things when the cars are even... lower tire pressure.. don't punch of the line too hard.. it is all those little tenths that make or break a street race.... i love the street cause it is the eqaulizer...

This one sounds like its going to be close. Just run him and tell us how you do I think if you get the launch you might be able to take him.

i agree, the biggest problem (that ive seen) is in street racing is over estimation of oponent and blowing it on the launch... i think if he holds his shit together he should be able to take the honda...

Yea on the street anything can happen. They may have a fast car and still lose because they can't handle it.

to my knowledge perludes never came with v6 so did he do a engine swap or something. they came with 2.2 4 cylinder but if he put a 3.4 in it i think he'll take u with ease but if he got the 4 banger it'll be a close race cuz i think though were runnin high 15 to low 16s

OMG... i didn't even catch that.. im sure no swap.. cause the only honda six available would make you even SLOWER honda 6's sucks ***, youd be surprised but most people swap to the h22 (prelude motor) BUT i think the first GOOD year was 92.... it definately isn't a six.. adn if it is id be real surprised

just to offer the one piece of info i happen to be an expert on... there is NO 6cyl prelude motor, and to my knowledge all the 90+ prelude motors are one of 2 diferant types of H22, but both of which having 2.2L motors...

Would VTEC make any difference? What makes VTEC better than any other engine??? There's this guy with a silver Prelude, not sure the year, but a newer lookin' one. is plate says VTEC8U. I'll bet. Maybe if I drove a Civic. I've wanted to race him for a long time, but never get the chance to. It has all the usual Rice options. The interior looks pretty sweet though. Anyways, good luck!

V-tec would make a difference, but since its an old Prelude, its shouldn't have V-tec. If its an auto you should tear him a new one, but if its a stick it'll be a good race. Good luck, and post results.

Just a thought here...maybe that 3.4L refers to oil capacity?

I think that year the prelude only came with a 2.0 or 2.1 model. If there is a 3.4 v6 it definately is not stock. Would a 3.4 even fit in there? If it truly is a 3.4 than my money is on him seeing as he weighs a lot less than you do.

Ok, I don't know why anybody hasn't pointed this out, but theres a very easy way to tell a 4 cyl honda motor from a 6 cyl honda motor... The V6 is in a "V" configuration, the Inline 4 is INLINE

Honda has never made an inline 6 and the largest V6 they make is 3.2L which is in the NSX. If this is indeed a 3.4 it has to be a chevy... I don't know how that would happen, but it's definitely not stock...

Either this guy doesn't know anything, he's a BS'er or he's a total mechanical genius.

BTW I believe the '91 Prelude came with a 2.0L OHC I4

The biggest engine you could get in a 91 prelude was the 2.0 I-4 with 140hp, and that was with the SI option. In 92 they introduced the H22 2.2 I-4 with 140hp that was the base engine then if you got the SI option you got a 2.3 with 160hp. And the top of the line V-tec was a 2.2 with 190hp. So there is definately no way this kids engine is a 3.4 v6. The front suspension couldnt even handle that much more weight.

Still, there is no way to physically fit the NSX motor under the hood.... and of course the real question is... V6 or I4? It's really easy to distinguish.

I'm sure you could find a way to fit on in there

might require custom mounts and a dry sump

but sure you can do it

though yeah it is easy to tell the diff

If it says "quantity 3.4L" then it has to be oil capacity... nothing else wold make sense... I mean my car (LG4) says 4L w/o oil filter, a 2.0L 4 banger must take less oil right? And if it says "quantity", then it's definitely not referring to Displacement...

I think this guy is just a moron... especially if he's trying to pass off an inline 4 as a V 6!

Seriously, I'd be a nice and explain to him without making [too much] fun... most people don't know anything about cars, might as well not shy him away if he wants to learn.

Just one other thing to remember... if anybody ever claims to have a type R motor, or DOHC, it only takes a second to confirm or disprove... DOHC has a very large valve cover (remember there's two cams under there) and the type R motor is DOHC with a big sandblasted red valve cover.

The 2.3L DOHC L-4 QUAD4 I had in the '89 GA had a 4 liter oil capacity. It takes alot of oil to lubricate a DOHC motor, especially when it's revving to 7000 rpm.

BTW, they now sell Type-R valve covers in rice mags and in catalogs, so any fool can front a Type-R motor , just like they do w/ the ext. badges (and stickers, and floormats, etc., etc., ad infinitum)

to answer the question about vtec beign so special.. it is not... vtec is what makes the car mildly aggresive at high rpms yet a dosile comuter car at low rpms.. it is two differant cam profiles, that switch at a given crossover point, it has a lot to do with why we rev so high... 2000-3800 ish the car is just getting moving.. the crossover is around 4800 then the car switches to the more aggresive cam profile, and that is what vtec is for

True, but you need to have a DOHC motor for the valve covers to fit.... you can tell the difference between DOHC and SOHC at a glance... no baseline honda motor has DOHC...

Also, if anybody tries to pass off anything but a right drive Honda civic HB or R/L drive Integra as a type R, they're BSing anyhow.
