General musings after a few updates

Seems like we're getting an uptick in traffic/members, which is good! Thought I'd throw out some thoughts and things I've learned after my most recent mods:

1) If your car is popping ICMs (or coils) just replace the whole distributor after the 2nd or 3rd go around. Yes, you can rebuild a distributor, yes you can bench test parts, been there-done that. You can also get a decent HEI distributor from any of the major parts suppliers for $125-$150, drop it in, check timing, done.

2) You can get the fuel tank out, if you're patient, without removing the rear end. The effort required to do this is basically the same as that required to remove the rear end, but if that makes you nervous then just know it can be done
-Make sure the tank is nearly empty.
-Get the back of the car in the air, i'm talking the rear bumper is approximately 2.5-3 feet off the ground.
-Let the axle drop to it's lowest point of travel and support it there (while keeping the body up, this will require removing the wheels)
-Remove the fuel filler door and the plastic trim inside the hole (so the neck can move around)
-Get all your heat shield and stuff out of the way (remove, bend, whatever just get them OUT)
-Remove the panhard bar (it'll be in your way)
-unhook all lines/pigtails and tuck them away
-unbolt the tank straps and maneuver it out (pulling towards the passenger side of the car). You will need to essentially rotate it 90 degrees in various directions as you maneuver the filler neck through the hole in the quarter panel.
-to re-install, do the process in reverse.

3) The inside of your tank might not be as awful as you think it is. I expected to find corrosion inside my '83 but what I found instead was shiny clean metal! (factory tank too!)

4) Ultima seats, if you can find them, are phenomenally comfortable, even if you don't use the inflatable bolster features. (lucked out on a set from a junkyard, they had to have been freshly installed in the crashed car).

5) Eastwood's no-weld hole repair kit is a good item for filling a small hole (like, say, if you find a nice firebird door to replace a crusty camaro door)

6) You can get remanufactured delco-morraine calipers and they work just fine to stop the car. Yes, there are plenty of better options out there, but if you're just daily driving or weekend cruising? they're fine.

Don't know if anyone will find this helpful, but there ya go!
