Some sort of transmission issue on my new 92 Camaro rs
It’s an automatic and Runs amazing when in park but the second I touch the shifter it stalls without a little gas. Has a bad tendency to stall when sitting still at a light and sometimes gets no rpm when giving it gas to get up to speed after a stop for a couple seconds before jolting a little as it becomes very responsive with the gas peddle. I think it has something to do with the clutch packs as after getting up to speed shifts up and down from there like butter.
Update: vacuum leak discovered and stalling problem went away for the most part. Still might be a little leak left as it does loose a lot of rpm and handles a little rough while stoped in gear. The shifters problem had nothing to do with it. Sifter doesn’t lock in but the car still goes into drive n such
I’m still new to working around cars and thought the worst when I encountered this problem

Re: Some sort of transmission issue on my new 92 Camaro rs
Stalling while sitting at a stop light in gear would have nothing to do with clutch packs. Maybe torque converter, but probably not. Sounds more like an issue with the motor. It's probably on the verge of stalling while in park or neutral. Put it in gear and the extra drag on the torque converter that usually pulls the idle down 150rpm or so, the motor isn't able to maintain idle and stalls. I'd be looking at that.

The rpm’s do sound a little low. The rpm gauge doesn’t work on my dash so I have yet to confirm.
I suspected the transmission initially since my gear stick can swap between all but park while driving. The button on the shifter doesn’t click down unless in park.
