Gas Tank Sending Unit - 1984 T/A

I do not need one. Somewhere I read that the fuel sending units for the '82'84 cars are scarce as like hen's eye teeth. What is so special about these units or different from other years' units? Was the same unit used for both carbed & FI cars? Mine is a QJ car.

The carbureted fuel sending unit is now reproduced but it's pricey at over $300. Only place I've seen it for sale is on eBay.
They have a standard pickup filter sock instead of an electric pump and also don't have a threaded fitting on the feed line.

I wouldn't say original carbureted fuel sending units are scarce. I know of at least a dozen in the local salvage yards.
Problem is getting them out of the car. Almost have to wait until it's time the car is getting crushed and get the sender
when the yard removes the fuel tank.

Tkx for the information. I have seen a video for removing the gas tank & it is a lot of work.
I really question why there is a return line to the tank. With a carbed engine, and fuel pressure with the fuel pump probably about 5 lbs to the carb & no in tank electric fuel pump, no return s/b required. I owned a '72 Buick GS 350 for 21 years & there was no return line to the tank.

A return lines helps prevent vapor lock in hot weather and high underhood temperatures. I've seen quite a few older cars without them have issues during the summer time.
