Cylinder heads?

88 iroc tpi 5.7... I know these aren't Factory heads because they are perimeter bolt set up, can anyone possibly tell me what they may be without having to pull the drive belt accessories...<br /><img src="https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thirdgen.org-vbulletin/2000x1504/16331283315643838932929618101838_5df2fe2fd8b8fad7fd17033a69e93fc4b69807df.jpg"></img><br /><em>Lt (drv) side head</em><br /><img src="https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thirdgen.org-vbulletin/2000x1504/16331283734687464557097771573507_3b9664ef7a344ce5133ee1a84a8f3da6a4df9d77.jpg"></img><br /><em>Perimemter bolt</em><br /><img src="https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thirdgen.org-vbulletin/2000x1504/16331283959186219819041749724918_d959c9d2dbaee1fc608b7f96daa3900b6235b132.jpg"></img><br /><em>Rt(pass) side </em><br /><img src="https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thirdgen.org-vbulletin/2000x1504/16331284353496520933391590722358_c497a9b4469576c15e912029c26c30ad54945bc1.jpg"></img><br /><em>Drv/Lt by acc. drive</em>

Re: Cylinder heads?

Take a valve cover off and look for identifying marks. Those pictures don't show much other than they're iron...or at least painted aluminum.

Re: Cylinder heads?

Yes, there should be casting numbers to see (depending on how much oil is currently under the Valve-Cover) if they are GM Cylinder-Heads.

Re: Cylinder heads?

Guys, am I seeing a big problem here? There is no method of guiding the rocker arms.
1/2" drilled holes, no guideplates, non self-aligning rockers.
SCARLETT-IROC, you now know why a picture is worth 1000 words.

that's definitely a huge problem over what brand the heads are. Some of those rockers are half off the valve tip.
Considering the casting marks, they're typical looking aftermarket iron heads. The cf is maybe the foundry mark. World heads seem to have a S/R marks. If you can sneak a mirror behind the head you may see a product line branding.
But none of that matters now. INSPECT those valve tips and rockers. Make sure you don't have metal shaving in the oil pan. Don't run that thing any longer without something to align those rockers.

Re: Cylinder heads?

I agree with everyone so far...

-Not GM Heads.
-Harland-Sharp (the creator of Roller-Rocker Arms) Rocker Arms.
-Those Rocker Arms require Guide-Plates.

Can anyone see if the Rocker Studs are Pressed-In or Threaded-In???

thanks on the info... I did some research and the heads are from what i found, either dart eagles or worlds.. But still not definitive... But dart 007 does yield results with online searches...
oh yea the studs should be threaded, the studs have hex on them where meets the boss.

Re: Cylinder heads?

World Products heads do have a CF cast into them. https://www.enginelabs.com/features/...for-dirt-oval/

Identify World Chevrolet cylinder heads. According to World Products, the Sportsman model casting number is "I-037" and S/R model casting number is "I-052." Standard S/R heads have the casting mark "S/R' above the casting number, while S/R Torquer heads have "305" above the casting number. The Big-block Chevy Merlin head casting number is "I-043," followed by a "B," "C" or "D" indicating the port size. Merlin heads are also stamped "World Merlin" on the outside of the cylinder head, above the exhaust ports.

Determine the casting date of the World cylinder head. World uses two dating systems, the first is two numbers separated by an "X," with the numbers representing the last two digits of the casting year. 1988 is identified by "8X8." The other is used on S/R Chevrolet heads for Chevrolet engines, where "AV8," indicates January 1998. S/R heads were first cast in 1990.

Re: Cylinder heads?

Bill Mitchell (World) and Dart probably share a casting facility for some of their products...
