Vortec tpi help
In need of some suggestions for accessory pulleys not lining up with crank pulley. Using a serpentine setup with vortec crank pulley and it’s at least 3/8 or more off. I purchased a set of shims on amazon and even using all three it’s still off. Any suggestions to get this lined up? Greatly appreciated.

Re: Vortec tpi help
Aren’t the vortec and l98 timing covers completely different? Vortec used the plastic covers and only other alternatives were a Holley aluminum cover that I currently have installed. Currently looking into l98 pulley to see if that gets me closer. Vortec dampener is still on and I’m really hoping I don’t have to remove it for a l98 dampener. Thanks though I will keep this all in mind if I still can’t figure something out.

Re: Vortec tpi help
Once the balancer, and timing cover are removed there is no difference between the Vortec and the L98 roller engine. You simply use L98 timing set, timing cover, balancer, and pulley. Simple as that. I daily drive a 97 Vortec in my 86 Trans Am with 88+ serpentine system.

Re: Vortec tpi help
Well I did some researching based off of Fast information about the vortec pulley Being shorter, I do have reluctor ring in so that’s one less issue. Found a factory crank listed on Camaro central and it’s listed as being 3.250” tall. Measured from dampener to outside of power steering pulley and it’s right about 3.250”. I will try my luck with that l98 pulley and go from there. Thanks again for all the information. I’ll be sure you report back with my results.

Oh well that's a horse of a different color. If you need the crank trigger then you'll have to deal with the pulley in some way. If it's simply a matter of swapping them then that should be easy. Otherwise you might have to pull out your lathe and build a spacer.

Re: Vortec tpi help
Great information guys and truly appreciated. I will order a tpi crank pulley and see what happens. If that doesn’t work I’ll get in the machine shop and make a spacer but it looks like a pulley from tpi/tbi will be my fix. I may be reaching back out to ask a few favors from you guys with vacuum line routing of tpi as I’ve never owned a tpi so I’m not sure how it all went together. So close to getting this thing going. Thanks
