permatex form a gasket #2 on china wall

permatex form a gasket #2 on china wall

did this on a edelbrock pro flo xt intake on top a vortec L31.

Question is; is this a recipe for trouble? Should I pull it apart and replace with permatex ultra black/ grey / right stuff.

lol, was so **** on everything but actual sealant/ rtv I was using

I’ve always used Great Stuff on intakes without issue. Seems like #2 is non-hardening. I’m not sure I would use that.

thanks. Went this morning (fitted the intake yesterday) and you can smush the stuff and pull it off with your hand. As you mention its non hardening and isn't filling me with much confidence.

I have some ultra black so, sigh, guess I'll be pulling the intake off

That; and, the #2 doesn't stick to rubber.

You can get a rubber seal to work, but you have to use something that is made for rubber. Gorilla snot is really the only thing I've ever found that works for that. But I still don't use the rubber if I can help it.

Right Stuff is the best. Not only because it dodges the whole rubber thing, but because it's so eeeeeeezy to apply it as it needs to be applied.

So attempted to pull the intake off and it’s on there pretty firm (I did remove all the bolts). Gaskets are the thick fel pro 1255 units which seem more thick cork than rubber

there isn’t much gap between the wall and the intake and my understanding is the lifter valley isn’t pressurised; is it really that bad of an idea to go ahead with no.2 on the China walls?

Yes.

There often is pressure in there; not "a whole lot", and not all the time, but, some, some of the time. It doesn't take much to slowly, gradually, over a period of time, push the rubber out.

Also the rubber expands when hot and softens, which makes it worse. It REALLY needs to be securely glued in place.

The #2 is "sticky", so it'll make the intake seem hard to remove. But its long-term odds of success are close to zero.

thanks. Managed to get it off and remove the sealant and gasket. Amazing how well the gasket was stuck on! Acetone made it slightly less painful. New gaskets on order, ultra black in clear line of sight and I'm looking ahead

I use "The Right Stuff" but the 90 minute tube, not the pressurized 5 minute can.
