Rod Knock After Carb Rebuild? W/Video
Just rebuilt my quadrajet and finally got it back on the car. Started right up and idled good. Let it warm up a little and took it for a spin on the highway to get it warmed up and ready to be adjusted. Got gas, brought it home, and shut it off for about 20 minutes while I headed inside to get a few things. Started it back up and now - this.
It was driving fine even prior to the carb rebuild: It was just leaking over the intake from one of the plugs and running a little rich so I thought it needed freshening up. Drove fine when I took it out to get warmed up - no SES lights or hesitation, good idle, all there. Now I'm afraid to start this thing up let alone drive it.
The sound goes away if I hold it above 1000 RPM, but starts up as soon as it comes back down. I hope I haven't blown my engine but this is assuredly NOT a good sound. Is it possible I dropped something into the intake? You see the air cleaner on it now, but all I did was remove it and replace it prior to taking this video to see if that made any difference.
EDIT: Here's a youtube link in case the uploaded file doesn't work

Cut the oil filter (preferably with an oil filter cutter designed for such a task - tin snips, pliers, and GLOVES if you don't have one) without *creating* any filings. It will be very clear if you have a bearing failure in progress. If it was running sufficiently rich, it could dilute the engine oil leading to a bearing incident.
If that yields nothing - loosen off all the belts and see if your noise vanishes - might be an accessory that's decided to let go.
Being that the noise seems to be most pronounced from the pan area..... don't run it anymore than you have to and get that filter cut ASAP to check for metal.
If you dropped something down the intake - it would either get spit out the exhaust if it was something small enough to not really notice, or would punch a hole in a piston or bend a valve or something similar leading to a misfire in that cylinder. Likely leaving the bottom end relatively untouched. Doubt that noise is FOD from the intake.
