AFR 210 addition

So I am looking at picking up a set of AFR 210 Comp port, .710 lift PAC roller springs, and titanium retainers. Looks like I am picking them up for $800.

My current setup is a 4 bolt 880 block, Scat bottom end, XFI 280 HR cam, vortec heads with stealth ram.

I have a few concerns, things to think about. Obviously I need to change intake manifolds, and am undecided on that. How feasible would another stealth ram with standard ports be with these heads? Should I look into a single plane, and if so will that hurt my drivability? I am enjoying good mpg's/manners with my current setup.

Would I be looking at my powerband being 7000+ on this little 383. I would assume, I have a friend that's running Fastburns with a stealthram, and a hotcam, and has power to around 6500.

I was looking at doing a BBC build but this may be enough to get me where I want to be.

Re: AFR 210 addition

The XFI 280 and a single plane with 195 AFR comp ports is what I ran and I had no driveability issues with 3.42 gears. 3.27 gears in low speed spots might give me issues. I don't think the 210's would make it much worse but with those heads I would want a cam with more duration and lift. I now have a 236/236 cam and I still have good driveablity. With 4.11 gears and a T56 you have I would think that parking lot crawls would still be 1500 RPM.

Re: AFR 210 addition

It would work ok. 210's are a 1206 port and stealth ram is a 1205, but some can be ported to 1206. I like single planes. Problem is they may be taller once you add a intake elbow with a large radius of bend. Tight radius will hurt flow and power some

You will need to change the springs out in those heads. Those are solid roller springs

But afr's likely will add 50 hp to that build fairly easily. Probably more

Would I leave much power on the table going stealthram vs. single plane? If I go single plan, what are some good recommendations? Is there any out of the box that will flow the 300+ cfm these heads flow, or am I looking at having some porting done off the bat? I have a ss hood, so hood clearance should be pretty good.

What springs do you recommend for this cam? What would it take to run the comp Beehives I currently have. Looking for the most economical bang for the buck. It would be nice to use the titanium retainers used with the solid roller springs. The OD of the SR spring is 1.5 inches. The beehives are much smaller.

Re: AFR 210 addition

I'd call afr for their 8019 springs. Setup at 1.77-1.78". Find out what install height those heads have. Solid rollers might be 1.95-2.0. So you need to be careful how you set it up. Valves might be plus 0.100" long to allow the solid roller height. Makes it harder to setup a hyd roller correcty

Pac has a 1374 or 1371 spring i believe that would work. I ran them in my car. They are 1.95" designed install height.

Kinda need to know what height you are set at to work out the right combination

Stealth ram would only give up power over 6000 ish rpm imo. That cam will go to 6500 with 210's. The edlebrock victor E efi system will need port matched to 1206 gasket size to match the heads. It will flow close to if not exceed 300 cfm. From what i have seen of other single planes
