Thoughts on comp cam 270h in 305
Hello!
Looking for opinions on running a 270h comp cam in a carb'd 305. I've got an edelbrock performer manifold, Holley 670 Street avenger Carb, hooker shorties and 3" exhaust. No concern for mpg, emissions, or anything like that - looking for mean idle and performance.
Some of what I have seen says it's too much cam, other people love it. Ive bounced between the 268 and 270 but the 270 sounds much better.
*yes I know - save $ and go 350, just looking for if it'll work.

That cam will definitely be too big for the 305. It would be sluggish with no low end grunt.

The hydraulic roller version could be considered a hot street cam for a 350, The flat tappet version wouldn't be as aggressive but still this cam in a 305 would be upper rpm range. If all you are interested in is idle sound why not look into one of those thumper or rattler cams that some manufacturers make? Those cams are made and sold for people who just want a particular idle sound.

The cam is PERFECT.
Only problem is, the motor is too small for it.
As we all used to say, "there's no such thing as too much cam, there's only not enough motor".
