Engine out, trans left in - how to tie it up

I took my engine out, and left the trans in.

Anyone have a pic of how they kept the trans and the converter in , and able to put the car back on the wheels to move it?

thanks

It's pretty simple, there is at least 100 ways to do it. Simplest/easiest would be take some wire or rope, run through a couple of the bellhouse bolt holes and pull rope up too and around the power brake booster and tie it off.
Trans crossmember in place under trans like normal.

Transmission aren't nearly as heavy as engines. I've held the front of the trans up with nothing but a couple pieces of wire I've made from coat hangers. Wouldn't tow the thing across town on the back of a flat bed over bumpy roads like that but for rolling it in and out of the garage it works fine.

Be sure to replace the pump to converter seal before re-assembly. The converter hanging off it unsupported can wallow it out.

naf's pic is a variation of how I do it as well... I usually use a piece of pipe. Otherwise, the same.

Would I be better to remove the converter ?
Rather than it being on the trans?

doesn't really matter long as you replace the seal before putting everything back together. good thing to do anyway while it's there

I wired the trans up with 2 wires.

Barely any weight on it.

Re: Engine out, trans left in - how to tie it up

Back when I had a rear trans mount, I did the same thing. A couple of bolts through the bellhousing and a piece of pipe across the frame rails.

My engine now has front and rear motor plates so a trans mount isn't required to hold the back of the engine up. The transmission just bolts to the engine and has a travel limiter going off the back to the driveshaft loop crossmember. Powerglide trans weighs about 100 pounds and can easier hold itself up with the bellhousing bolts to the engine.

The downside to this setup is if I ever want to pull the engine, the transmission needs to be completely removed. Not really a big deal in a race car.
