Hey guys,

I have the chance to acquire a Edelbrock Performer Plus 2102 Cam for next to nothing.

I am going to be rebuilding my LO3 305 and considering converting to a carb. Was just going to stick with the stock cam, don't need tons of power,
or much more than stock for that matter.

Is it worth it to throw this cam in my engine? Looking for low end torque.
And will this work with the stock heads on this engine?

Dont say build a 350, i have my reasons.

That's a flat tappet cam, you realize. Your LO3 is roller cam. In any case, you're going to need fresh lifters to go with it, unless it comes with them.

And if it's been run in an engine before you're going to need the lifters that were run on it IN PROPER ORDER so you can match them back up with the exact lobe they were running against.

I do realize it is a flat tappet cam. I know to pros-cons of flat tappet vs roller. The real question, is it worth $10 to throw this thing im my engine? What kind of performance gains could i expect?

The little peanut cam in the L03 engine is certainly notoriously small.

According to Fast355 in this thread, your stock cam specs are...

178/194 @ .050, .350"/.385", 109* lobe separation installed at 112* intake center-line

Its a decent stockish cam for an L03 and should give you 15+ horsepower maybe. In saying that I would recommend going back with a roller like the Ramjet cam which would work fine with your stock computer and give you a good bump in power. A roller cam is worth the extra $ especially if you already have a roller block waiting right there. Good luck with your build.

I've used that cam several times in LG4 305s (carbureted) when it was time for a little more umpf. It works just fine. It makes more power everywhere except maybe at the extreme low end of the RPM range.

It'll cost you better than $400 to put a FREE cam in your motor.

Besides the cam: valve springs, hardware, intake & VC gaskets, timing set, push rods, a buncha mightazwellz (water pump, speedy-sleeve, spark plugs, plug wires, cap & rotor, yadda yadda yadda), fluids, ....

It'll be a little better than what you've got, IFF it doesn't explode before you even get to take the first test drive.

For the same $400, you can put a cam in there AT LEAST as good, that you don't have to worry about near as much of that.

Pass. Get a roller cam. At least you dodge the timing set and push rods, and most of all, the RISK.
