My 91 Z28 has been stored over the winter and it got started on a weekly basis.
About 5 or 6 weeks ago I drove it about 5 minutes to a gas station to fill up and then it was started weekly between then and now.
This past Friday, I actually drove the car for the first time this year. It was running fine, then I got stuck in some stop and go traffic. I was driving maybe 20-30km/h when the car just stalled out of the blue. I pulled over and the car started up again like nothing was wrong. I drove for maybe 5 more mins in this stop and go traffic and it happened again. This time I noticed the rpm gauge fluctuated a bit before it stalled and as it was stalling I tried giving it gas but it didn't respond to that and still stalled. Again I pulled over and it started up like nothing was wrong. I checked under the hood this time as there was a big enough shoulder on the road now that I could get out of the car and I didn't see anything visually wrong. I'm not sure what it's called, but the silver a/c component on the passenger side close to the windshield was "sweating" pretty bad(it was a very humid day). I decided I would try and turn the a/c off and see if that made any difference. I exited the highway and the stop and go traffic at this point as well and the car ran fine to my next destination. I was there for maybe 10 minutes, then when I left there on my way home about 10-15 mins later I encountered some more stop and go traffic again and once more the car stalled and then it started up again like nothing was wrong. Maybe 10 minutes later when I was out of the stop and go traffic I was just driving along and as I slowed down to make a turn the car stalled again. I was probably driving around 20-30km/hr at this time. I put it in neutral and the car started right up again and ran fine the rest of my way home.
So to me this sounds like it's probably a fuel issue or an ignition issue but I have no idea where to begin troubleshooting. The fact that the car starts up without any trouble is what is confusing me about this situation.
A little over a year ago I needed to do an emissions test so I changed my spark plugs, cap and rotor, coil, cat converter, o2 sensor, cleaned the IAC valve, checked the timing and set my base idle as that was never done properly after I did a 305 to 350 swap. The car passed with flying colors, the best emissions test result I've ever had in the 10+ years of ownership.
I have a fuel filter at home which I was planning on replacing later this week.
About 3 or 4 years ago I put new spark plug wires on and replaced the egr valve.
The fuel pump was replaced maybe 5 or 6 years ago.
The distributor, ignition module and pick up coil were replaced maybe 4 or 5 years ago.
I just put new tires on the car last Friday and there was also like a "whistling" sound I was hearing before the car stalled the second time. I'm not sure if it was something to do with the new tires or the road I was driving on or if it could potentially be related to what happened. I didn't hear the whistling the other times it stalled.
Not sure if it's related or not but the exhaust smell, more so when the engine is cold, it has a very "potent" smell. Not really sure how to describe it, but if the car is running in my garage and you walk into the garage from outside it gets difficult to breathe and you have to go back outside rather quickly. It doesn't always have this smell which is another strange thing that is happening. I have a Borla cat back system that you can adjust how much exhaust is forced through the muffler, at the present moment, none of the exhaust is being forced into the muffler, but I've had it like this in the past and this smell has never been present before, the smell is new this winter/spring.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to what may have caused this or suggestions on where to begin troubleshooting?

No check engine light when it acts up?

I'd get a gauge on the fuel rail and see what kind of fuel pressure you have.

Doe the tach flicker every time it stalls? If so my bet is on it being the ignition control module.

There are no codes in the computer.
I have one of those data cables but I have never used it yet. Is there any info I could potentially get from that?
I only noticed the tachometer flicker the second time it stalled but that's not to say it didn't the other times.
I should have some time tomorrow to change fuel filter and if I can get my hands on the tools I'll check the fuel pressure.

I believe there's a method to test it with a multimeter, but I'm coming up blank at the moment.

Pretty sure it was the fuel filter.
When I took the old one off I tried pouring some water through it but nothing was coming out the other end
