Engine smokes some, temporary fix?

Well, like the title says. My 305 does smoke some, idling and otherwise. I know the best fix is prolly an engine change, but that's not possible right now. Is their an oil additive that will at least cut down on the smoking? Sorry for the tard question but a car that smokes looks bad

Oil-additives/Not even worth it my man. & if she smokes sheeet lol, dont sweat it.
Anyway never-mind me, what type of smoke does it look like cigarette smoke or puffs of white smoke ?

Cigarette smoke->possibilities are valve seals, valve guides, intake manifold gasket, or at your worst, that's if its so bad a fire truck would have to come then your piston rings

White smoke-> Intake manifold gasket, cylinder head gasket, warped heads (Over-heated) or even a block that's cracked

invest in a leak down tester & a compression tester, they'll save you alot of time and hassle

Re: Engine smokes some, temporary fix?

My 305 burns oil only on occasion after being cranked because of valve seals.

What I did was keep the higher weight oil (10-30) year round. Also non synthetic. That makes a huge difference. Im afraid of the large leaks I'll find if I switch to synthetic. That has almost eliminated my issue so keep that in mind.

For additive, if you don't have much love for the engine, Lucas oil stabilizer will work. It will help a lot, some people have reservations but for the price I'm sure it will help. There are other things at auto zone that do the same thing. I'd trust Lucas personally

Re: Engine smokes some, temporary fix?

Needs valve guide seals, same as any other Chevy small block

Forget the "rebuild in a can" idea. All that accomplishes is to make the car faster, by way of weight reduction centered at the driver's wallet.

But he should change his seals, that job easily can be done.

Re: Engine smokes some, temporary fix?

I didn't say "rebuild", I said "rebuild in a can". (bottle, tube, whatever)

This d00d's car needs valve guide seals. No other activity will take care of his problem. Can't open a can and pour it in and expect it to go away. Gotta just suck it up, make up his mind, and do what it takes.

Yes I am old. Yes this is not the America I grew up in. Yes I have adult children. Yes I am used to the short attention span of people born since 1990 or so and their unwillingness to do more than swipe across a phone screen in order to get anything done all while they complain about "nobody wants to hire me". Well duh... sometimes things require actual WORK and we gotta put somebody in that position that's willing to do it. We don't "provide jobs"; we look for WORKERS. We got stuff that needs to be DONE, not a chair that needs a warm body with a pulse sitting in it.

But in this case, a phone gesture isn't going to make his smoke go away.
