How to replace A/C evaporator casing?
What do I need to remove in order to replace my A/C evaporator casing? (firewall passenger side). Here is a picture: http://www.ebay.com/itm/82-92-Camaro-Firebird-AC-A-C-Evaporator-Case-/361044132314?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item540fe841da&vxp=mtr
I found one at a pull-it-yourself junkyard. I was able to get the top part of the casing off, but I couldn't figure out how to get the lower half off.
I need the lower part because that's the part I damaged while installing my headers.

I'm not sure how that will help a bit. ???
Been a while since I've done mine, but I am certain there is at least one bolt from the inside of the cab (possibly two?) that you are not seeing. You will need to pull the hush panel and look for them.

I just replaced mine couple months back, Removing the fender will get you nowhere. You need a 1/4" drive ratchet-extension and universal joint to get to the lower screws around the fender well area on the bottom half, There's three screws inside you'll have to pull the carpet and sound deadner back to get to......

Comes off ALOT eeeeezier all in one chunk, evap and all, than taking it apart first and pulling it one half at a time.
LOOK at the pic you posted. You can see where all the hardware is, plain as day. There's about 3 bolts across the bottom, that you get to under the front edge of the carpet.

Wow I can't believe I didn't think about bolts from the inside! That's probably all I was missing to take it out, since I got it fairly loose. Can't wait to go back to the junkyard and try again.
Also do I need to remove the A/C accumulator? I wasn't able to remove the nut on the pipe that goes to the evaporator, but I only had a crescent wrench with me.

Re: How to replace A/C evaporator casing?
Just undo its little bracket strap thing and leave it attached to the evaporator coil.
If you step back and study what you're doing carefully, you'll notice that you can remove the ENTIRE A/C assy - compressor, condenser, evaporator with housing and blower motor, lines, and accumulator - as a single unit without disassembly. In fact I'm pretty sure that's how it went in; shipped to the factory already assembled and charged with the right amount of Freon, and they just dropped it in as the car went down the line.

Yeah I see what you're saying. I've removed the compressor while leaving it attached, if that makes sense.
I probably should have done that with the junkyard A/C system. It looked in much better condition than mine. How would you get the condensor with it too though? You would have to take out the radiator right?

Re: How to replace A/C evaporator casing?
Where exactly are those bolts on the inside? I pulled the carpet, peeled away the layer of dumdum/rubber mat, took off the knee bolster cover, took off the dashboard, and still couldn't get it out. I loosened almost every bolt and screw and fastener I could see. I took the dash halfway out of the car too.
