throwing together a combo, suggestions?

I'm getting ready to Start throwing my car together this weekend once my cam comes in and I wanted to see what everyone thinks, right now I'm running a stock l31 with a vortec cam, Alex springs, and a eddy performer intake and a 600 carter afb carb. The upgrades I'm doing are a comp cam xr270hr cam, an accel hei distributer mated with an accel 300+ ignition box, a 2800 stall converter with a corvette servo and a b&m shift improver kit and a trans cooler, and I'm swapping my 3.42 open differential for a 3.73 posi differential. I'm also thinking about installing a gear drive set to replace my timing chain. Any suggestions? Im looking at an RPM performer intake but don't know if it will be here by this weekend when I do everything.

Gear drive.. why? Total waste of money. There's nothing wrong with timing chains.. your description for the converter doesn't tell us much. What converter manufacturer, what size (not stall..) and what cooler for it? And for the record - there are much better options than Comp. Their lobes on shelf cams are outdated. You're also going to need a better carburetor than that if you plan on optimizing power and responsiveness.

I agree with all of Delta's comments except for the cam.
I think those Comp XE lobes are a good choice for a driver. They're not the old style lazy lobes, yet don't require new valve springs every 20k miles either.

Harold Brookshire "UDHarold" designed the XE lobes. His redesigned lobes are with Lunati (based upon his original XE line). That's Lunati's Voodoo series, for reference.
