vapor lock?
hello all, I finally got my newly built motor out and about and im having this one issue. when I drive around and park the car, it is a real p.i.t.a to restart. itll crank over fine, but wont fire. if I try mult times it may fire up, but mostly wont. I can also pump and hold the pedal to the floor and itll start that way also. im running a electric holley blue pump to a deadhead regulator, which both outlets are used 1 for the carb and other for the nitrous. I put a 1 inch wood carb spacer on, but its been raining and haven't been able to take the car out and test (drag radial tires). is it possible the regulator is causing this issue? and also can I tap into the nitrous fuel line with an adaptor and run a 5/16 line back to tank that way, or do I need a 3 port regulator?

Re: vapor lock?
Couple things. First, Always run a return regulator, it'll help keep the pump cool and actually regulates the fuel better. Second, how do you have yoru blue pump hooked up? Is it sucking fuel through the factory position out the top of the tank? IF it is, you'll burn it up. You really need to run a sump style feed if you're using one of those. I learned that the hard way.
what pressure are you running to the carb? Should be around 6PSI.
I also had quite a bit of issue with my attempt at using a dead-head regulator. Broke down and got a mallory unit which solved my sisues.

Re: vapor lock?
Fuel gets vapor locked by boiling in the line and "Steaming", creating air pockets that an old mechancial pump can't pull through because they're just sucking air. With your electric pump, you shouldn't have that issue unless the fuel at the dead-head, which isn't still moving, is boiling. With a return style the fuel is constantly moving and cicrulating.
You won't be able to use your dead-head because ti's not designed to return fuel to the tank even with an extra port.
Also, dont' forget to let the system prime for a moment before cranking it over, this gets all the fuel moving. My carbed car will crank sometimes on the first try, but other times it'll crank 4-6 times before firing up. Just the nature of carbs so far as I can tell.
