Re: timing help
What is making you think it's advancing?
How does it run when it's "advanced", compared to when it's not where it belongs?

Re: timing help
What springs do you have in it?
Did it come with a manual?
Many HEI distributors continue to advance well past 3K with the stock springs. Just because you set it at some random point at 3k RPM does not mean it magically knows when to stop.
You need the timing adjustment kit for a HEI distributor.
Second thought is your timing light compatible with the MSD ignition? Many dial lights get screwed up be the multi spark. Your best best is timing tape and a normal light.

Re: timing help
light weight springs makes the timing all in sooner.whereas stiffer ones make it come in at a higher RPM
