new motor,cam,etc. timing help needed
ok i just built my 355 sbc with the 268xe comp cam. they state that 10-12 base timing and total of 34 by 3000 rpm. how do i limit it to the 34*? last motor i had i couldnt get the total under 42* killing performance and fuel mileage. im using same unit so id rather nick it in the butt now then later. any help? im using an aftermarket billet hei unit WITHOUT vaccum advance. thanks!!

It should come with different size bushings to limit travel.

Just read your link, doesn't mention a manufacturer, doesn't show a pic of the weights and springs. Call his tech line. All the ones I've dealt with have bushings that limit the advance weight travel. What ignition system are you running?

You will need something like this

Why did you go without vac advance?

Buy an MSD Dist. now, those dist are junk, you will keep having issues until it is replaced. imo

Re: new motor, cam, etc. timing help needed
It is hard to limit the advance on cheap HEI distributors.
http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=119691
Otherwise you reduce initial timing but add lighter springs so at idle the weights move more
If you want full adjust ability you need a MSD system.
Change the springs and see how it works it will be some trial and error.

Re: new motor, cam, etc. timing help needed
also i have the msd timing control that goes inside the car. how can i lock the dizz at 34* so it stays there at all times? or is that a bad idea? i could retard it in car to start and then turn it back once starts.......
