Valve Stem Seals

Hey guys,
I need to replace my valve stem seals. I know this can be done with the heads in the car but why wouldn't I just pull the heads and not have to sit under my hood? I know I'd have to buy new head gaskets and bolts. Any reason not to pull the heads? It's on a 305.
Thanks
Bill

Re: Valve Stem Seals

yes, it's easy... air compressor, valve spring tool and some good aftermarket seals(VITON)

Re: Valve Stem Seals

The only reason not to is strictly a labor and gasket expense issue.
You are going to have to basically pull the top half of the engine off(throttle body/carb, intake, distributor,, alternator, PS pump, air conditioning(if equipped) , and probably some other stuff I am forgetting.
If you are going to pull the heads, get a "head gasket kit". It will include all seals you need, including the valve seals.

Heads on vehicle will probably take you an afternoon to do. Heads off vehicle will probably take a couple of weekends to do.
