Junkyard heads

*Before I start, I KNOW that the L03 isn't worth its weight in scrap, so lets stay productive in the answers*

We all are aware that the poor airflow of the L03 is its major downfall. one major part of that, is the fact that the heads are about as effective as breathing through a straw. For the sake of curiosity, what are a few options for JUNKYARD AVAILABLE heads that could be found on engines of cars you may commonly come across that would free this up a bit? Everyone knows to just build a 350, but for those that currently can't, this could be an option, as at my local yard, heads are only $37.99 each. Are there any that would give any improvement, any higher rpm capabilities, anything? Thanks.

Re: Junkyard heads

Vortec 305 heads would probably be your best bet, out of a 96-98 pickup, I think they only came in the 1500s, and usually the 2wd ones I believe. Not sure what those heads would do to your compression ratio tho.

Re: Junkyard heads

if everything is still stock, the factory cam and exhaust system is a worse restriction than the stock"swirl port" heads-you can get well above factory horsepower rating and RPM limits before restriction of factory heads becomes a factor.

If they are " real " Vortec heads they require Vortec only intake which rather blows the budget idea
