Best intake options
Ok guys im building a 406 for my 70 k10 i have two tpi manifolds in the garage new 30lb injectors, ecm, wireing harness ect. Everything i need to make it efi. Ill be running 33" tires and have 3.73 rear gears. The basics of the build are going to go as fallowes 180cc aluminum heads 2.02,1.60 fordged internals, going to be a full roller motor with the comp cams ex264hr cam. Now the question is can i get it to make power up to 5k with a ported penelum, base, and slp runners?i mean as heavy as the truck i love the idea of the tpi and 406 for low end tq but id still like to make power to 5k. Any thoughts? Any one running a similar set up in their car and do you like it?

Re: Best intake options
I was thinking that. Running 9.5:1 right now on my 350 no problems with cast iron fulie heads. A motor built probably 25 years ago by my old man. Thought with the aluminum heads id might be able to bump it up a little as the aluminum disperses the heat better and expands a bit not making as much power as a equivalent cast iron. But i defiantly know 9.5:1 is safe and its a truck so thats probably the best route.either way the intake is my main concern. Is the ported tpi the way to go for a heavy 4x4 or was looking at a edelbrock pro flo xt manifold. Its a daily driver right now with quite a bit of offroad use, mud, hills, trails. Just looking for a happy medium i guess as i font need it to rev to 7grand but would like to see power to 5.

With truck gearing, I suspect you will be pulling the tread off the tires every time you put your foot down

Yeah i caught that link after i replied sorry. Yea ive seen that article before and also one called tpi l98 stealth mode as&m runners and extrude honed base from chp magazine putting out some impressive numbers. If i could make the same hp at the crank they are with the ltr/ported setups they ran id be more than thrilled. Looks like most of them cut off at right where id like, just a little leery of magazine numbers vs real life numbers.

Granted but in this case they are not pushing one advertiser products like most mag builds and from posts on forums the results seem to fair
accurately represent real life results
If nothing else they serve as a good intake vs intake comparison ;given they were all done by the same people on the same equipment
Take away the numbers and just compare the graphs to see where each performs ( and dies )

Re: Best intake options
That's not enough gear for a heavy truck with 33's I've got a 5.3 ls in a 2200# wrangler with 31's and 410's and it feels just about right.

Yeah i know but when its already screaming like a banshee going 55 i cant do much till i get a overdrive or a new daily driver. This is eventually just going to be my toy but for now i want to keep where i can drive it. The 3.73s are way better than the 3.08s it came with even picked up on the top end. But when i put in a over drive i was thinking 4.10-4.56 range.
