On an older 305 tbi that I had we swapped the intake for a edelbrock performer got a carb to tbi adapter plate for a 454 and put the 454 throttle body on top of it with a cheap set of headers, then had it re tuned for the injectors, can't give you an actual hp number but it was quicker and seemed more responsive,

To get the most out of it, put it on a go cart or dune buggy and take it to the drags. Then run 9's-10's and have a fun time making lots of friends.

275-310 hp out of a 305 is very doable, but will require some prep and aftermarket speed parts-at that hp level starting with a 350 will give better results for less costIf you lower the 305 hp goal to ~220-240 hp,things get a lot easier and can basicly be done with the usuall boltons:cam upgrade, exhaust upgrade, fuel pressure boost,ETC...One thing L03s and LG4s have going for them is they are so mild in stock form that upgrading is very easy.Back in the early '90s,i basicly did a mild cam/exhaust/air cleaner on my original LG4 305 and the increase in performance was dramatic

Gotta agree with Johnny on this one. Sounds like you're going to be tapped out for a while to me.
I hate to say this because I know it's not what you want to hear, but don't waste a bunch of cash trying to upgrade a 305 when there's just sooo many 350's out there.
You can much more easily get 275-300 streetable and foremost - reliable horsepower out of a 350. Can a 305 be built to that HP level?....sure it can...but at a cost of being less streetable and reliable IMO. And you'll probably dump more money into the 305 in the long run to match what you'll get out of the 350 with less radical mods....
If you want to swap in a 305 in the meantime...sure, just drop it in and keep it stockish...maybe a good set of shorty headers, intake, carb, distributor...that can be bolted onto a 350 later on. Just IMO.....no bashing intended.
EDIT: BTW, you're car is a MPFI engine currently correct? Keeping a TBI on the 305 would take a lot of work and some donor parts and wiring etc....I'd go to a carb...
