3800 Series II starter in SBC?

A couple of the "old boys" at work were talking that they run the 3800 starter in their SBCs (old Nova and Chevelle) with no issues at all. I did some searching around and cant find anything about this. Has anyone heard of it? I compared part numbers to the LT1 starter and 3800 starter and they are very close, but not identical.

Never heard of it.

The advantage, compared to say a stock LT1 starter or some such, would be .... ?

Since it can handle the cranking of a V8 (I'm told) theyre cheaper.

If its got a 168 tooth flywheel just get a vortec starter from say a 97 Express 1500 350. They work amazingly well and much lighter than big bertha.

These are 153 I believe, I guess I was more curious than anything else. It could open up some options for people looking for a cheap used starter online as well. A 3800 starter is gonna be way less than an LT1 starter on say craigslist.
