Good combination?
Just kinda looking for some opinions on the final motor setup that's currently being swapped in guys. I had a couple issues getting to this point including a little issue with the machine shop and a crack in the lifter valley of my first motor. They replaced the block with no questions asked so I didn't complain and the actually payed me gas money for traveling! Anyways, the motor I originally had built was a L69 from a 87 Monte Carlo SS, now it has a ;
305 Vortec block, .030 over, flat top pistons, 2 bolt mains, cast # 10243878
L69 heads, Slight port work and polished, cast # 14101081
Melling 22301 cam, .480 valve lift on int & exh, 287 dur
Edelbrock performer intake and performer 650 carb
Hooker shortys, custom y-pipe that will go into a boom tube once the swap is done
Mechanical fuel pump, intake will be the tpi style into the factory air cleaner assembly.
I have my WC T-5 refreshed, factory peg leg rear with 3.23s
Car is a 92 rs t-top, very good shape! We have already finished re-wiring the entire chassis, even down to installing a foot switch for the high/low beams. The only original wiring on the car is the light pigtails. Wire tuck is complete as well. Alternator wiring and headlights run through the frame, ect. As far as the motor goes, any suggestions to make a little power other than saying get a 350?

Re: Good combination?
Poor cam choice, especially with those gears. It will be a slug off the line and get rather poor gas mileage.
Use a Comp XE262 or the Lunati Voodoo that's about the same size, I forget the new number for it.

Re: Good combination?
I was iffy in the cam as well but my engine builder said it would be good. I may go ahead and change it now before it goes in. What gears would help? I was thinking of a 4.10, as well as the gears are actually a 3.43, that was my typo. This car will be kind of a autocross/street set up so I'm wanting response over top end power.

Re: Good combination?
yea like sofa said that's not a good cam choice at all!! In a 305 it's going to be really sluggish down low. Which makes it an even worse choice for autocross. Your going to need like 4:11 gears and a 3000 stall converter maybe even higher to get it off the line.
Out of curiosity why are you building a 305 instead of a 350?

Re: Good combination?
I knew that question was coming
305 over 350 is because of convenience and need. It was dropped in my lap, I thought it was a pretty cool little motor and I'm coming up on my EAS date from the marine corps and needed my car back on the road. The motor will be coming out in around a year and will be torn back down and possibly go in my little bros (used to be mine but I passed it down) el Camino, and be replaced with a LsX setup, but this will do for the next year, give or take time to find the LS. As well, I'm running a T-5 so I don't have stall speeds to play with. Do Yall think it will really suck that bad? I figured with the 3.43/T-5 it wouldn't be horrible at least.

Re: Good combination?
It's probably going to be pretty dead in the lower rpms unless you put some gear in it.
If that's a stock t5 i would take it easy on it. Those things aren't rated for much torque.
