Two piece RMS oil pan recommendation for third gen
Hi all,
I finally bit the bullet to put a 350 in my '88 convertible because I found an old 39770014 short block fresh from the machine shop with like new internals for $150. My problem is I wanted to use my stock oil pan to save $$$ but then I realized mine is a one piece RMS. I got a nice chrome oil pan thrown in but it's for earlier cars and, as I understand it, will not fit in a thirdgen. I saw Summit racing has some Canton pans that'll fit and are 2 piece RMS but they are over $300. Any suggestion?

Needs a windage tray; I usually use the Moroso Teflon-coated one.

Dude! That was fast From what I can tell, that means that any oil pan for an L82 vette will serve my purposes. Is that correct? It's just that the particular one you linked to is listed as discontinued. Thanks for the info!!!

That would SUCK if it was discontinued.
I've been using that pan for about 3 decades now, in EVERYTHING (it fits ALL chassis).
Google the part # and see what you get.

Ok. I'll do that. I chatted online with one of their advisors and he said he'd get back to me.

Re: Two piece RMS oil pan recommendation for third gen
So I checked several places and this particular pan is no longer available. However, I may have a new understanding on the fitment of the pan. I always understood that I couldn't use an older oil pan on a newer vehicle and I thought it was because of fitment. When I realized it was because of rear main seal design, I still kept thinking there was a fitment issue. Looking at various oil pans recently though, I believe they should fit ok. Any thoughts?
