Oil pan gasket replacment on a 89 iroc
1989 IROCZ 5.7 TH700R4 bone stock
I currently have the transmission out and flywheel off. The engine has 2 pieces of wood between the firewall and block to keep it from tilting back.
The "y" pipe is off along with everything after it.
My questions:
Having the a\c components on the car won't damage them when lifting the engine?
I wanted to know if I had to completely unhook my engine from the car?
I don't have a hoist to do so.
I have the oil pan still in place but off the bloack to take off the gasket. The oil pan won't come off because of the oil pump.
Can I just maneuver the 1 piece oil pan gasket around the oil pump?
any and all help is appreciated! Thanks

It's going to be hard without a hoist. I did mine with the trans hooked up. Removed top portion of fan shroud. Took out the motor mount bolts, made sure the timing mark on the damper was pointed down so the crank journals were up at the front, took off the distributor cap, jacked the motor as high as it could go, placed blocks between the motor and frame mounts then removed the pan.

Yeah i have the timing mark pointed down.
So I can jack my car up with the floor jack? Should I have it under the pan with a flat piece of wood or something?

You mean jack the engine up not the car. Yeah I usually use a wood block under the pan sump, You can try but it's not gonna be easy. Since you have the trans out, there is nothing stabilizing the rear of the engine. It might tip off of the jack you then you're gonna have a hard time getting the motor back into place. Not to mention getting hurt or damaging something if the engine decides to tip over.

Pull the motor.
As usual, trying to get out of doing the work that you SHOULD be doing, is making you do even more work than the work you THINK you're getting out of doing. Pretty much always works out that way.
Rent a hoist. Pull the motor.
