Piece of plastic in fuel tank?!
Hey guys, I've got an 82 recaro trans am with crossfire injection. I dropped the fuel tank earlier today to replace the fuel pump and looked inside the tank and saw a big chunk of plastic sitting in the bottom of it. It's a rectangle shaped piece with what looks like two push in clips built into. It's a fairly big piece so it for sure wasn't something that fell into the tank, it looks like its something that's supposed to be in there. I'm at a loss for what it could be. Does anybody have an idea what it could be? I got a picture which hopefully helps explain what I'm talking about

that plastic tray is on the EFI cars to keep fuel from sloshing away from the pump intake when the fuel level is low in the tank-unlike a carb with it's float bowl that will keep engine running for a bit,EFI will cut out when pressure lost from pump sucking air.

Hmm okay makes sense, but is it okay to just let it sit there? Is it supposed to be clipped onto the tank somewhere inside or does it always just sit loose inside the tank? I'm just worried about filling up my tank and having it float up and hitting the pump or the fuel level sender.
