Need help with my never ending project...
hey there guys, after having problem after problem on this 1986 camaro, im resorting to ask your guys opinions because me and my whole family is pretty much stumped....
Let me begin with some background, I bought this camaro 3 years ago with the plan to restore majority of it over time. we were gonna rebuild the old engine, but found a huge crack in the block. so we picked up a cheap engine out of a slightly newer c-10. This engine was a known runner and looked like it was in really good shape. we swapped everything over from one engine to another, throwing on ALL new gaskets throughout. then when we were getting ready to put it in we replace TONS of stuff. we got new sparks, wires, distributor, alternator, starter, oil filter, battery, radiator, fuel pump, cleaned out the sending line and threw everything together, but couldnt start it. turned out the return fuel line was blocked. then we fixed that, got it running started to drive it and realized it was shaking REALLY bad at high RPM's... so we tried tightening pulleys and belts, making sure everything was tight, and even replace the harmonic balancer, but that didnt fix it. so we then realized that while swapping everything over we had put the camaro flywheel onto the truck engine which has a different balance. so we got the correct flywheel ready to swap over.
now this is the current problem.. we dropped the tranny took everything out, swapped over flywheels, however the correct flywheel just seemed way to small. it was alot thinner then the other one. we also couldnt adjust the clutch (Which is brand new as well) to help the fit because its a hydrolic clutch. so we picked up another new clutch and it still was the same problem. but we figured maybe its supposed to be that way, so we finished up with replacing the rear main seal and bolted everything up. So of course the flywheel fixed the shaking problem, but now the clutch is acting up, you have to pump it over and over to get it to work. we pumped it plenty to get bubbles out and eventually got it working, but then it dropped to the floor...... so we kept pumping and eventually got it back, but down at the lower end when its pushed down majority of the way, something just doesnt seem right, and we dont know what it is.
So that is one of my questions, does anyone know whats wrong?
My second question is after bolting everything and running it for a bit, we realized it is leaking oil inbetween the engine and transmission. it leaks just a little bit when the car is off, but when its running its almost a steady flow...... Im pretty sure we replaced the main seal correctly, i wasnt there for that part so i dont know forsure, but both my grandpa and uncle did it and ones a mechanic and does rear main seals all the time so i dont believe that would be the reason. Any opinions??
Any advice is GREATLY appreciated, i just really need to get this car done because i cant go any longer without a car...
Thanks again

did you get the right fly wheel first of all? not a flex plate for an auto trans? check for leaks on your slave and master cylinder. what I had to do was remove the slave and let it come out all the way then push it back in by hand to remove all the air from that once i did that everything worked fine.

http://www.2carpros.com/images/artic...flex_plate.jpg this is a flex plate. yes it is a lot thinner then a manual trans flywheel another example http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...flexplate1.jpg
and a flywheel looks like this http://www.marlincrawler.com/images/flywheel_500.jpg or this http://www.mooregoodink.com/media_ce...eel%201525.jpg
notice the starter ring on the flywheel thinner then the contact surface. on the flexplate the ring is thick then the actual place the torque converter bolts to.

ok so no flex plate mixup. its definitely a flywheel. figured out why the clutch is acting up. no the only thing is we still dont know why were getting so much oil leakage between motor and tranny. any ideas of what it could be?
