Htc cranckshafts

Im new here guys just wanted to say hi and ask if there is anyone that knows anything about crankshafts built by hank the crank. I pulled the engine out of my 82 z and it has a 3.625 stroke crank and it is a very nice lookin piece. It has hank the crank scribed on the front of it along with a bunch of other stuff describing things like stroke, bearing size mains and rods and some stuff I dont even know what it means. I think one of them is the weight of the crank, thanks in advance for any info you guys might have. Oh also I know the motor was built around 1984 so its pretty old. It is a .030 over 350 with the stroker crank it comes out to 370 cubic inches.

You got yourself a pc of racing history. If it's in decent shape, you just might want to just clean it up and put in a show case.
Hank himself was in failing health with heart problems and his son.Scott,
was running the shop and then closed it.

It would likely turn into a valued pc in time if not now.................

Re: Htc cranckshafts

Wow... hadn't heard that name in many a year... Hank used to be one of the go-to guys for serious racers.

I doubt it will have much "collector" type value, but then I don't know much about that sort of thing... but I will say, finding parts for that combo, if you want to rebuild it and run it, won't be easy. Nobody builds that one any more, with the popularity of the 3.75" stroke. You will probably have to get custom pistons made for it if you need new ones.

The markings on high-end cranks usually give the bob weights that it was balanced for. Might also include things like shop order # and the like.

Re: Htc cranckshafts

Thanks guys. The engine ran good when I pulled it. It had some ***** I will say that. The distributor gear is wasted along with the cam gear. The crower roller lifters are offset driled,it is a solid roller. The brodix heads have extensive work done to them also.I just wanted to do a quick rering and bearing job to freshen it up but rhen I found one cam lobe has a ridge on one side like the lifter wasnt riding in the middle of the lobe so I will need a cam. Im hoping the lifters are still good. The guy that built the engine back in the mid to late eighties still works at the same performance shop (Hutter performance) to this day. It sounds like I better go pay him a visit. Was hoping to get away on the cheap but we all know how that goes.

Pretty cool find. Way better than the "I found my 383 is a 305" type of post you normally get...

Re: Htc cranckshafts

Knowing the kind of stuff Hanks was,I seriously doubt he will find much useable for pump gas on the street with that set up.

No the engine ran great on 93 octane. The engine was built by a life long employee of hutter performance for his own 82 z28. It has the htc crank 6 inch H beam rods I have never seen the type of flat top pistons that are in it. solid off set drilled roller lifters . Comp cam off set roller rockers. I will try to get pics. I dont have the bottom end apart yet.It produces just over 500 horse and purrs like a kitten. No lumpy cam sound, stock sounding muffler. If it wasnt for the cowl hood you would think it was a stock 82z. The original owner told me it was a nascar modified motor tamed down for street use. There is so much grinding done on the heads that there isnt much left of the original brodix castings that hasnt been modified.Heads are dated 6/14/84. the ports were moved both lateraly and horizontaly. where the headers bolt up there is 2 sets of holes for each port. One set above the other. The ports were moved up so far they had to drill and tap another set of exhaust manifold mounting holes. It is topped with a team G intake and a holley ? double pumper. The choke tower Was removed so Im not a hundred percent sure what it is yet. It is crazy the stuff they were doing back then to make power.
