89 IROCZ Wont Crank
I just finished rebuilding my engine on my Iroc, yesterday i dropped it in and hooked everything up,correctly, i think and as i was going to turit on for the first time it wouldnt do ANYTHING. The headlights, taillights and the interior lights do light up though but when you turn the key or put it ACC mode none of my gauges move and the check engine light and the security light do not turn on either. before i did the engine rebuild it would turn on just fine. I just dont know what im doing wrong. ive been searching and searching and nothing helps so i thought i would just start a thread. BTW its my first thread. PLEASE HELP!!

Re: 89 IROCZ Wont Crank
I would start at the starter to make sure you have all the wires connected, This is where your power to inside comes from.

Re: 89 IROCZ Wont Crank
if memory serves me correctly there are 3 wires that attach to the ss besides the purple ignition wire, I believe they are a fusable link wire as well, make sure they are good.

So besides the little purple wire, i should have three other wires connected right? two other red wires and my positive battery cable Right?

I think there are 3 fusable link wires, battery and ignition wire, one fusable link wire i think has 2 wires together, look around bell housing make sure one isnt between trans and block.

Re: 89 IROCZ Wont Crank
I checked and everything looked fine, all the wires were connected. I have the purple wire conected to the starter as well as the link with the two wires together, a separate red wire and my battery terminal is also connected. what else can cause this?? im confused

Re: 89 IROCZ Wont Crank
Just a question, is your negative wire conected to the block, is your negative ground strap from block to cowl connected? if all that is good, you have to have a wire missing that powers the ignition switch, Thats all that can be to my knowledge.

There are 3 red wires, one goes to ignition switch, one to fan relay, one to the headlight switch. Then purple ignition wire then the battery positive cable, you might trace the red wire from the ignition switch to the starter to make sure it isnt broke somewhere.

Thats prolly the ground for your fans. I would get a test light and check the red wire at the ignition switch there should be an orange wire with power as well when key is turned in acc position, if there is no power there, that is your problem, you will need to find where the break is in the red wire

Re: 89 IROCZ Wont Crank
Ok....triple check the ground wire, make sure it actually is making good contact to the block. Make sure the starter is not in there crooked, to the point it binds when the gear comes out. Make sure the grounds are connected on the back of the passenger side head.

Re: 89 IROCZ Wont Crank
Also, just thinking, if you get the soloniod to click, make real sure, even if its the fifth time, that you have the main hot wire to the starter. If its not hooked up or loose, or busted, you will get a click, but no turning over.
Also if that battery is nasty junk, you may not be able to jump it. Got a different battery to try? (sometimes they short out, and use the energy up, instead of using it start the car)

Yes, live. If somewhere your somewhat local, more than willing to help you out. I think your missing a wire, I believe, you should have 3 wires on the main post of the starter. then one little one on the side.

Re: 89 IROCZ Wont Crank
A little far for me...LOL
Sounds like you have them all connected, id look around down there though to really make sure. I have done it a hundred times leaveing a wire off.

I also checked all my fuses in the fuse box and they were all good. I dont understand why the service engine soon light wont turn on when i turn the key to ACC mode. i tried putting my other ECM from my 88 iroc and it still does the same thing
