Extrude Hone - Worth It?

I'm building my 305 TPI, ZZ4 cam, TPIS runners, ported matched plenum, SLP headers and plan on fast burn heads next year.

Since my engine is apart, just wondering if it is worth having the stock intake Extrude Honed to match the TPIS runners.

Cost is around $435.

Will the gains be worth it?

Need advise. Thanks.

Re: Extrude Hone - Worth It?

Back in the 90s I had a crossfire intake extruded, to me it seems like the did just enough to smooth the runners. I should have ported it alot before sending them my intake.

Yes, I've heard the same. Not worth it unless a better manifold is not available, like an old Datsun L28 for example. You have 3 choices...custom, cut-up and hand ported and welded back together, or extrude honed.

I think it is, I have one setup I did, 355, 3860 base, Edelbrock runners, 113 ported heads and LT4 Hot Cam.

I did a small amount of porting to the base, the runners were 1.660, then had it all extrude honed including the plenum.
It made 321HP peak and still was making 300HP @ 6000 RPMs w/auto trans.

Re: Extrude Hone - Worth It?

Thats what I was thinking some sort of data error, pretty amazing hp and torque for running backwards.

Re: Extrude Hone - Worth It?

It made so much torque it pulled the shop forward real quick lol

Extrude honing I believe they can use more coarse media to get more removal depends how long they leave it going.

Hand porting gets good results if you have the time/patience to spend inside.
Too bad extrude hone is so pricy it would be the perfect follow up to carbide work.

Which fasburn type heads? heard the 210s have a higher port and your stock base may not seal maybe someone can verify that.

Re: Extrude Hone - Worth It?

Maybe it was a earth quake . I would be sweet to have a hydraulic mead abrasive setup for the diy at a affordable price. In the mean time ill mix my silly dough with sand and poke it with a stick.
