Are these two problems related?

Long story a little shorter, put my car in the shop to have the torque converter swapped. Before I picked the car up, shop manager told it was done, they just needed to get the shift cable adjusted so that the trans would shift into park (didn't know then what I know now, about shifter cables). I picked the car up and things seemed fine for about a thousand miles. Then I had trouble getting the trans to shift into Park. Got under the car to adjust the cable, and guess what, there's a new (AFTERMARKET) shifter cable installed. Called the shop and they denied any knowledge of a cable change ("Did I charge you for a new cable?" they say. I say NO, that's why I'm calling...)

Soooo, until I get and install a OEM cable, I'm kinda feelig around with the shifter to find the gears....stick doesn't line up at any of the gear indications.

Soooooooooo, lately the car, when warm, stalls when shifting into reverse, and once in a while when shifting to Drive from neutral.

Could it be that the stick location is not 'telling' the trans when it's shifted into gear, and so no IAC compensation for going from park / neutral to a gear (loading the engine)?

Car is as noted in sig.

Thanks!

Also found an undersize nut half-way cross-threaded onto a torque arm mount bolt, and loose bolts on the exhaust header / y-pipe flanges.
After a few good years of service, and recommending the shop to others, I now gotta say STAY AWAY from YARMAN DRIVELINES in Lancaster, CA.
