Fueling Issues

Fueling Issues
So when I bought my car the guy told me 1/4 tank actually means empty. I keep running out of gas when I pull up to stops to fast when my car is at 1/2 tank. It acts like its out of gas and wants to die then it either fires back up or I have to restart it. I am pretty tired of dealing with this and to top it off my gas tank will only take about 6 gallons of gas before it kicks the gas pump off. So it won't fill past 6 gallons roughly 20$. Does anyone know why this is happening? I'm kinda thinking it might be the fuel pump but I don't know too much about cars was hoping someone could help point me in the right direction. I figure at this rate of running out of gas and having to put 20$ in gas a day can't be great on my fuel pump. Someone help plz.

Like I posted before IBrochz something is wrong with the tank ie filler tube, tank baffle, bent pickup you will need to see what is going on in there.

Re: Fueling Issues
Ok thanks. I'll have to talk to my dad he's the one that is teaching me to work on these cars. He has his 82 Camaro Pace Car since I was a little kid. That being said I'm sure he's gonna be thrilled that we gotta drop the tank lol jk. He'll probably tell me to wait until the fuel pump goes bad that was his response when I said I wanted to fix my gas float. Seemed like he avoided it like the plague. Thx for the help tho!

If you have it out, grab a tank and sending unit from a 91-2 car.. They are the 1LE tanks and will help you pickup fuel during hard cornering..

Re: Fueling Issues
the parts store will most likely be a generic replacement.
Get the 91-2 tank from a junkyard thats not rusty. It will have baffles in it for cornering.
I wouldn't get one from the parts store when I get real nice ones with sending unit pulled out for $35 bux all day long where I'm at.
