To much timing?

Recently had my quadrajet rebuilt with one of Cliffs kit and I took the car in to get a few things checked out once it got put on since it wasn't running 100%. When I picked the car up they said the timing was way off and that they retarded the timing 10 degrees. It runs alright, but doesnt like to idle to well while the choke is going and like to hesitate every so often after 65mph. Fuel pressure is where it needs to be so I know thats good. I'm wondering if the timing is just to far off? Also, I'm not sure if its the cam but the car shakes some while its idling to. Its a mechanical/vacuum advance disty
