How hard would it be...

Ok guys, I can't seem to find anywhere else to post this, so im gonna go ahead and post it here.

How hard would it be to do the following:

My car right now:
1987 Pontiac Firebird
2.8L MPFI V6
No GFX
Analog dash

The car im looking at buying for parts:
1984 Pontiac Trans Am
New V8 Carbed engine (Not sure exact details)
GFX
Digital dash

Now, my question:
How hard would it be to put the V8 carbed engine inside of my 87 Firebird, along with the 84 GFX, and the digital dash?

I know, digi-dashes are for the V8, but keep in mind thats what im putting in, along with all the sensors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys, and yes, I know, its gonna be a VERY hard challenge.

Re: How hard would it be...

Could you get a digital dash in an 84 T/A? I thought they weren't available until 1988...is it a factory dash?

The V6 to V8 swap will be a little involved...you'll also need to swap the ECM's, radiator, motor mounts, and probably a few other items.

You'll probably need to drill all the holes for mounting the ground effects on the 87, as every set of factory ground effects seems to mount differently on these cars.

Re: How hard would it be...

Sorry, I meant to say I already have the digital dash, didnt come off the 84 :P

How long do you think a project like this would take?
I understand involved, but theres a line between "involved" and "Hard as F***"
Scale of 1 to 10?

And I think everything on that car is straight with the engine and ECM and stuff, but the A-Frame broke on it and the body is in rough condition. The GFX are still usable, but thats about it on the body. Maybe the tailights and headlights, which I may put into my car as well. Ill basically skin whatever is of value on this car, and either put it on my car, put it up for memorabilia, or sell it.

I should start a progress thread once I get it going

Re: How hard would it be...

if you have the parts car its doable.you may have to swap wiring harnesses to swap guage panels.a 87 firebird won't pass inspection with a carbed engine if you live in a state that checks that.

Re: How hard would it be...

On a scale of 1-10, I'd say all that stuff is going to be an 7 to 8. Ground effects are going to be a lot easier than the rest. And I'd assume you would need the wiring harness for the digi dash too; not sure if the sending units for the gauges are different, that might be another obstacle you'll have to overcome.

Re: How hard would it be...

Being brutally honest,I'd say the engine/trans swap,and the ground effects,are worth doing,if that's what you want.The digital dash,on the other hand,are a different story.
It's a ton of work,to swap in a less reliable piece,IMHO,not even close to being worth the effort.

Re: How hard would it be...

If you have an engine hoist or something similar, then the engine swap will be cake. Wiring harness won't be too terrible unless it is all cut up. I agree with Irockz that the digital dash will be a challenge. Although if that is what you want to do then I say go for it, but be ready for it.
