Help With Cam Choice
Well looks like i might be doing a cam swap soon, so i need some help selecting a new cam. Its a 350 from a 1978 vette, l48. It has 8 to 1 compression ratio and smogger heads. The car is a daily driver, has a t5 and 3.73gears. I have an edelbrock performer eps manifold and a holley 750 vacuum secondary carb. Any recommendations, i also would like to keep the stock springs and push rods! Thank you

Re: Help With Cam Choice
Dont keep the stock springs, bad idea and a lazy one when doing anything related to the cam.
Call up companies and tell them your setup. People here will never give you a perfect choice for your setup.

Re: Help With Cam Choice
I'd second that if you're staying flat tappet, or the Lunati Voodoo equivalent. I've got the XE262, and it's proved to be a great daily driver cam on my old 70's smogger. Avoid the cheap older generic grinds, like the Summit or Crane bargain cams. I've run both the old Crane and the new Comp in the same motor, the newer design is much better value.
Pulls non stop from idle to where I chicken out (about 5k), no worse on fuel than my previous cams, gives me 18" vacuum in neutral, and idles just the tiniest bit upset.
Your compression is lower than mine, but it's a pretty mild cam. Definitely change springs to match the cam whatever you get, your stock springs are gauranteed to be shot.
Also make sure you take into consideration your head's spring-to-guide boss/seal distance is adequate for the new cam's lift, and that you aren't going to get into spring coil bind issues. If you don't, you will be breaking stuff for sure.

Re: Help With Cam Choice
They are the stock smogger heads i dont think i will have any coil bind issues because its such a small cam its only .050 bigger than stock
