Hi guys, so I have been having some issues with the throttle sticking in my 84 camaro. The car was originally a 2.8 litre and when I put the 355 in there the throttle cable seemed a bit too long. Well as you can see in the photo below the throttle cable is long enough that there is a loop in the cable, it is not a tight loop but there is a loop there. The red arrows indicate the path of the throttle cable. What can I do to fix this? Is it possible to shorten the cable? Is the throttle cable shorter for the 305's? I mean if there is cable that is the correct size I would just as soon buy the right one and be done with it. I also noticed in the fall when it got real cold outside the throttle would freeze and wouldn't move at all until it became warmer.. So I was able to loosen it up a little by spraying wd40 up in the throttle cable sleeve at the carburetor, but it is still sticking occasionally, and it really blows when I honk on the throttle in 1st gear and go to shift to 2nd and the throttle revs out of control!! pleas help.

Simple way is to reverse the linkage so that you route the cable from the opposite side(E.G in front of the throttle body). You will have to adapt the linkage on the throttle body to pull from the top instead of the bottom. Hope that makes sense.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to help out, unfortunately I don't know what you mean. The throttle cable goes into the throttle bracket one way only. I don't want to have to mess with fabrication on this. Can I buy a cable that is the correct length?? and can I cut my existing cable to length? Any help will be great. Thanks guys.

You can cut the cable to the right length and the outer sheath so it fits in the throttle holder.You will have to attach a swivel to the throttle lever that will take the wire cable threw it and can tighted a screw onto it once adjusted. Thats about the easiest way to do it.

right on, well I am going to look and see if I can find a proper length cable on flebay first. I am pretty brutal at modifying things like that and knowing me I would totally botch the job. So for now I will wait and look. Also just wondering is it difficult to remve the cable from the car??thanks in advance.

nope pretty easy to remove.just disconnect both ends but if you buy a new cable, tape one end of the new cable to the old one and pull the new one threw the firewall.Makes it a lot easier and quicker. I would cut the old one and give it a try.If u stuff it up u can buy the new one ..But you wont stuff it..Its idiot proof
