FLAT TAPPET TO ROLLER ???
O.K. , to all you engine GURUS's . i was in a discussion about GMPP crate eng. #19210007 . it has a flat tappet cam shaft .435int./.460ex. lift , 212int/222ex duration . question is can one just swap swap to roller lifters by just swapping lifters ? we realize not stock factory lifters . but can/should it be done ??? thanks ...

Re: FLAT TAPPET TO ROLLER ???
If the block was not designed to use a roller cam then you need those retro roller lifters and the lock plate to hold the cam back.
Those lifter sets alone run from $289 for Howard ones to $400 ish for Comp cams ones, plus the cams run $100+ more on average. Your looking at $500 at least for new parts.
I was hoping once I pulled the motor for rebuild in a couple of years, since its a 87 with a flat tappet cam in it, it was designed for a roller cam, just not finish machined.
I can ebay all the stuff needed including a used cam for less than $200. $300 extra to me for a minor gain IMO is pushing it cost effective wise.

Tom, does this block have the bosses for the spider bracket that holds the roller lifter dog bones in position?

Re: FLAT TAPPET TO ROLLER ???
im not to keen on this, but if it does have the bosses for the spider and its not tapped yet, does that mean i could tap it and use a roller cam?
