How do you know if rods are out of round?

Car: 1988 camaro
Engine: cammed 3.1
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 10 bolt 3.42
How do you know if rods are out of round?

I'm rebuilding a 3.1 and all the rod bearings had the most wear on the ends of the bearings. Is this normal?

yes. you measure it up and down and side to side to see if its out of round
