My Quest For Better Gas Mileage
I apologize for the novel:
I have 2 vehicles at the moment, my 2000 SS which is my daily driver (i would like to promote it to toy), and my 1984 Z28 which is drivable, but off the road at the time. i'd like to get 2 more vehicles, a Harley for cruising and to save some gas, and a 67-72 C10/20 pick up.
my second thought for better gas mileage would be to swap a Turbo'd ecotec into the C series pick up, though with the weight, i dont know how the gas mileage would be. *perhaps someone could speculate.
Now i'm turning my head to the little 305 Z28. I should be getting about 18 city and 29 highway. i want more. i want iron duke status (23 city 32 highway) here are my ideas so far.
-ultimately id love to swap a turbo'd ecotec with a 6 speed. but i figure that they're still fairly new so finding one in a junkyard would be slim to none.
-at the minimum, what about just swapping a 5 or 6 speed in. * could any one speculate the mileage on that? i'd either have 3.23 gears, or 4.00 if i still have the other rear around. it'd be on a mostly stock 305.
i thought about turbo'ing a 4.3L + 5/6 speed. then i thought, if the difference in mileage betwen a 4.3L and a 5.0L isn't drastic, no point of going through thr trouble of swapping an engine for an extra mpg or two.
that brings me to slapping a turbo, or centrifigul supercharger on the 305 + 5/6 speed. the 305 is the LG4 btw.
i'd really love to hear your guy's feedbacks/thoughts/heckling and push me in a direction

Re: My Quest For Better Gas Mileage
Your talking abou an extra 4-6 miles per gallon. But an initial expense of $2000 at a bare bones minimum - It'll take a whole lot of miles racked up to realize any net savings from gas expense after all the cash you spend on these mods/swaps.
And stay away from Harley - all show and no go, and they spend all their best years in the shop.

Re: My Quest For Better Gas Mileage
i'm doing it to keep miles of the 2000,
i'd like something to drive in the winter that can get salt on it and i won't cry,
a manual would be fun,
i already have the car + sentimental value with the car
i'd like to do something different, may not be different to other people, but to me it would.
With this car, or my next project, i'm finally thinking mileage over power, and i'd like to run with it.
really? even a sportster? i've talked to people with Harleys and they're fairly pleased.
